ViewSonic ViewPad 100 Dual-Boot Tablet PC Technical Specs, Price and Release Date

Date Published: September 8, 2010

If you’ve read our ViewPad 7 release date post, you might be surprised how quick ViewSonic of America made another surprising tablet revelation at the Internationale Funkaustellung or IFA 2010 in Berlin, Germany. Aside from their amazing ViewPad 7 Tablet PC that incorporates phone functionalities in an Android Tablet PC, the company also unveiled a prototype of their dual-boot 10-inch ViewPad 100 Tablet PC model. This ViewSonic ViewPad 100 Tablet is a dual boot PC that can run both Windows 7 Home Premium and Android OS 1.6!

While ViewSonic is still promoting the ViewPad 7 as its flagship tablet PC product, they are insisting that many customers will appreciate the larger 10-inch display of the new ViewPad 100 Tablet PC. And of course, the Windows 7 Home Premium booting is just so attractive to people accustomed to the familiar operating system from Microsoft. What the company is trying to do is to simultaneously win the hearts of Windows and Android fans! Imagine the convenience, if you want to edit photos or do office tasks, switch to Windows 7, and if you want more speed and simplicity, reboot to Android 1.6 OS, that simple.

The ViewSonic ViewPad 100 Can Dual-Boot To Windows 7 and Android OS

The ViewPad 100 prides itself for having a huge 10-inch capacitive touchscreen display which is larger than Apple iPad. The screen of Viewsonic Viewpad 100 is LED-backlit and offers a 1024×600 resolution, sharp enough for HD movies. Other nice features of Viewpad 100 Tablet PC include a stunning Graphical user interface. Viewpad 100 Tablet PC’s technical specs are the following: it runs on the horsepower of a 1.66 MHz Intel Atom N455 processor with 1GB default RAM. It will have WiFi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, and (thankfully) a 1.3 Megapixel Camera. The ViewPad 100 will ship with 16GB internal SSD memory but it will have a microSD slot for up to 32GB more of storage. There is also USB ports for connecting peripherals. Since this machine will be running Windows 7, you can enjoy all perks like Flash 10.1 and other desktop applications.

Sadly, as per ViewSonic’s announcement, the ViewPad 100 Tablet PC is going to sell for £549 in the UK and other parts of Europe (this is more than $800 in the US). The expected ViewPad 100 Tablet PC release date in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and other European countries is in October this year. The high selling price of Viewpad 100 is a big letdown. This tablet PC is not cheap and targets customers with deep pockets who are too comfortable with Windows computers to ever consider buying an iPad. If you don’t need the Windows 7 OS, I suggest you better buy the ViewPad 7 Tablet PC instead, which will sell for less than $400 – a cheaper alternative to Viewsonic’s ViewPad 100 Tablet PC product. But if you really want a high-end tablet PC, try looking into the new Samsung Galaxy Tab Tablet PC (also introduced at IFA 2010). If you wish to compare Samsung Galaxy Tab Tablet PC, Viewsonic’s Viewpad 7 and Viewpad 100 Tabelt PC models, head on to the articles linked above to gain insights from the comparison of these top Tablet PC models of 2010. At the end of the year, we’ll all decide which is going to be the best Tablet PC released for the Year of the Metallic Tiger and welcome 2011 with high expectations for newer, more powerful and cheaper Tablet PC models.
