Texas Instruments WiLink 7 Combo WiFi 3G GPS Bluetooth FM Chipset is already available for purchase by OEM manufacturers. The producer, Texas Instruments, said that WiLink 7 is an innovative wireless chipset that packs combined WiFi WLAN 802.1n, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, and FM receiver/transmitter. This 65-nanomenter single-chip solution for multiple connectivity standards exhibited a 30% reduction in power consumption. It also reduced size configuration by 50% and delivered better interoperability performance.

Texas Instruments unveiled the WiLink 7 at the Mobile World Congress in Spain this year. They are the first chip manufacturer who were able to produce this single wireless chip that contained WLAN 802.11n, GPS, FM transmit/receive and Bluetooth. This concept is going to be a boon to smart phone manufacturers since WiLink 7 will let them make more power-efficient and smaller products.
No major phone manufacturer has announced their support for this new WiLink 7 but Texas Instruments is confident that smart phones featuring their new WiLink 7 will be on sale before 2010 ends. Future Android phones and iPhone models should be using this new integrated chipset because WiLink 7 is the most versatile wireless single-chip solution for mobile phones. I just hope Texas Instruments will offer the WiLink 7 chipsets with an affordable price tag. OEM such as HTC, Apple, or Samsung will snub this fantastic product if it comes with an unreasonable price. We really need a less-power hungry chipset for our smartphones. Android and iPhone apps eat up a lot of battery power. Anything like WiLink 7 that gives us power savings should be patronized.
