Augen 7″ Tablet Review | Augen 7-Inch Color eBook Reader $89 Price on Kmart Now Under $100
Originally, Augen 7″ Tablet PC also known as Augen “The Book” 7-inch eBook Reader was sold on Kmart for a lower price ($89) only. Read our Augen eReader Review to find out the specs and features of this 7″ color eBook reader. Now, the Augen 7″ eReader is out of stock and the price has changed to $99.99. The popularity of Augen 7″ Tablet has made it a popular choice along with DreamBook ePad A10: a New Windows 7 Tablet PC. We recommend you read those articles to gain info on those 2 great devices which cheap, portable and highly elegant.
In our intent to serve our readers better, we have read one not-so-positive Augen eReader Review from the Kmart website. The guy’s experience with Augen 7″ eBook Reader must not be so pleasing. Read on to find out.
I recently purchased The Book for my wife for her birthday. The intent is to see if this is a suitable platform for her to use in an educational setting.
I had a pretty good first impression. The box was nice and sturdy, and The Book was already in its [faux?] leather case gently protected by a two-piece clamshell. Under The Book was a USB cable and a power adapter.
When powered on, the display was bright and clear. The joystick was instinctively easy to use, but sometimes you need to press the enter key instead of pressing the joystick down to make a selection.
Reading is a pleasure with various font sizes to choose from. It will automatically change to landscape from portrait if you turn it on its side.
There are a LOT of excellent other features on this unit. Unfortunately most are buggy or very slow. I could not get the DRN to register, and web browsing was excruciatingly slow. Also, when moving from browsing to reading, if you leave your cursor out, it will stay out until you go back into the browser and move it off screen.
Music quality is adequate. Headphones would likely sound better. Keyboard symbols when typing only work on Notepad mode, and NOT on websites.
There is no auto shutoff. Web Browsing is slow. No direct support for Amazon or Barnes and Nobel formats (but possibly available through Adobe Digital Editions).
Aside from the quirks – 75% of which they can get right with a firmware upgrade – there are a few things that will probably never improve – the quality of the keyboard touch, the speed of web browsing, and easy access to the most popular pay-books.
But, if you want to know if you like eReading or not, this is an affordable way to see what the craze is all about.
Despite the negative review, we’ll stick with our stand that Augen 7-inch Color eBook Reader is still “The Book” reader everybody should consider buying. You can buy Augen 7″ color eReader from Kmart when it becomes available in the next few days. For now, selling of this device has stopped.

DONT BUY THIS AUGEN TABLET! IT AINT WORTH ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So far, the Augen 7-inch ebook reader is doing what I expected it to … I use it to read. The browser is handy to look something up but I use my laptop to surf the web or need to do research.
NOTE: I figured out that by using the @ symbol on the internet, use the up arrow key instead of the ALT key(to the left of the ALT key) and it worked! I haven’t tried it with any other symbols yet.
I purchased one of these Augen 7-Inch Color eBook Reader (or Augen 7″ Tablet PC) through heartland America when it finally arrived after being on back order for quite awhile, it worked fine for a little while but when it came time to charge no luck. I contacted their customer support who had me on 2 occasions try to upgrade the firmware. No success and eventually it would no longer come on at all not even by USB power. I again contacted customer support who now said to send it in. Two weeks go by and I call them to try and find out what was happening and was told they were waiting for a replacement part to come in and mine was the next unit to be repaired. The next day (today) I receive an email and a phone call stating that the pin was broken and that since it was physical damage it would not be covered under the warranty even though it arrived to me in that condition. If this is how they warranty their items I do not recommend buying anything from this company, as they obviously send out cheaply made items to get your money and when it is defective they do not care.
