California-based TabletKiosk announced their latest slate PC product the Sahara Slate PC i500 as their new flagship product. The announcement was made at the Microsoft Booth, Nangang Hall #L108 during the Computex 2001 in Taipei. The Sahara Slate PC i500 is the undisputed king of all slate PCs with its Intel Core i7 processor!

Sahara Slate PC i500 Tablet PC is designed for power computing on the go. It is highly portable and yet it packs enough juice to meet even the most demanding professional. The Core i7-640LM vPro CPU makes this slate-style computer the ultimate tablet PC. It makes the Motorola Xoom and iPad 2 look like toys for kids. The TabletKiosk Sahara i500 is definitely perfect for enterprise productivity while on the road.

It has a very unique dual-mode 12.1-inch screen that easily switches from Wacom-like digitizer input to multi-touch capacitive screen operation! A pen is still mightier than the finger especially when accuracy is demanded. Why should this wonderful product be exclusive to corporate stiffs when I, humble gamer, can appreciate it more.

Anyway, another unique feature of this gadget is that it is manufactured with dual hot-swappable Lithium-Ion batteries which give users 24 hours of continuous operation! This feature alone makes the Sahara Slate PC i500 a most-desirable item to have! TabletKiosk also addressed the need for watertight security for this slate PC. It comes with Infineon Single Chip Trusted Platform Module which is offers top-rated hardware encryption ability. There’s also Intel Trusted Execution and Intel Anti-Theft Technology as added layers of protection to safeguard sensitive data from hackers and thieves.

The company made it clear that although the default OS of Sahara i500 will be Windows 7 64-Bit, they are willing to customize it as per customer’s demands. They are also thinking about making Ubuntu and OpenSuse Linux versions of this slate-PC once it ships this 2nd half of 2011.

    How is this tablet gamer friendly? It doesn’t have a discrete graphics card, you’d need a stand, external keyboard and mouse in other to play most games. Aside from games for mobile devices like the iOS or Android platform, there are very few games specifically for the tablet pc platform. None of those qualifier their players as “gamers”

    Also, the hotswappable batteries don’t give 24 hours of continuous operation. Unless you either buy 6-8 sets of batteries that you keep fully charged or two sets and a separate charger where you charge the depleted cells as you continue to use the tablet. And actually, for that to even work, the batteries must charge faster than they are used – not likely. Also, you’d need to have a separate charger (which is currently not even listed as an available accessory).

    These are the main problems with this review which reads more like a tabletkiosk press release than anything else.
