Rovio’s Angry Birds Game Coming to Roku TV Set Top Boxes
Roku, one of the world’s leading Internet TV set top box maker has partnered up with game publisher Rovio to port the world’s most popular mobile game, Angry Birds to all Roku products. This strategic partnership will allow Roku TV owners to play Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons and Angry Birds Rio on their big-screen HDTVs!
Roku TV owners will soon enjoy the craziness of Angry Birds game on their boxes.
This deal also will bring an Angry Birds special animated TV show and gives license to Roku to sell Angry Birds merchandize via the Roku Channel Store. This announcement is the first step for the company to expand their very successful Internet TV platform to go beyond streaming movies and videos. They also want to make it as a premium home gaming system.
Rovio is the first publisher to sign-up but Roku is already in talks with other casual game publishers and hopefully, by this year, there will be more games available for Roku TV owners. Expect this game to be available on the Roku XD Wireless Digital Media Player.
Anthony Wood, Roku’s Founder and CEO says, “Angry Birds is the most popular and fastest growing casual game yet it has been trapped on mobile devices. We believe there’s a huge market for games on the TV. Just as we were the first to enable Netflix to stream instantly to the TV, we intend to be the catalyst for transforming the way people play casual games – starting with Angry Birds on the biggest screen in the Home.”
Very proud fighting words indeed. Yeah, in case you forgot, Roku was launched on May 2008 as the first Netflix streaming player in the United States. This made Roku the industry standard for streaming internet TV product and currently #1 in terms of users’ base. This deal with Rovio is another notch to their crown.

Rovio’s Angry Birds games will be available on Roku products starting summer 2011.
