Mafia Wars by Zynga is The New Addiction of Facebook Users Worldwide
I would like to confess that I used to be a Mafia Wars addict. If you use Facebook and haven’t heard about Mafia Wars, good for you! Please try to avoid accepting any Mafia Wars game invite from your Facebook friends. I assure you, once you try this Text-Based role-playing game, you will get hooked real bad! It is very addictive. If you’re not up to the challenge of playing this online game for 12 hours or more, then think twice. It is like smoking – once you try a stick of cigarettes, you have around 90% chance of getting addicted to it for the rest of your life!
My Basic Profile in Mafia Wars
It is very amusing at first but you will never notice that playing Mafia Wars is like trashing out in a quicksand – the more you actively play, the faster you will sink inside its immersive world.
It will surely consume so much of your time; you’d be playing it at home AND at the office too. You are going to neglect lovers and friends and stay glued to your laptop or desktop, playing Mafia Wars. You will lose sleep and you will gain weight! Your wife or girlfriend will hate you for it because you will be neglecting your obligations to them.
Mafia Wars addiction affects all levels of people around the world. Students, professionals, housewives, and even company C.E.O.s! Here are a few more details of my Facebook Mafia Wars page. I have 5,332 Mafia Wars friends! They are all Mafia Wars degenerates! It’s a worldwide epidemic. My Mafia Wars families are not only from Philippines or America but also from Europe, Latin America, Australia and Asia.
Just like me, they spend 5-12 hours playing this addictive game every day! Some of them spend hundreds of dollars buying Godfather points from Zynga just to be strong and stay competitive on Mafia Wars. Even I spent a few dollars back in November 2009! I don’t smoke and yet I spent real money to buy some virtual weapon and armor from Zynga just to improve my Mafia Wars account! This is why if you have PayPal or credit card like I do, NEVER ever try to play this game. Mafia Wars preys on a player’s cyber ego, it tickles your “macho” bones. Zynga is cunningly earning millions of dollars every month from combative Mafia Wars players like me. Playing it like crazy is not going to make you the top Mafioso, you gotta spend real cash to be good in Fighting at Mafia Wars.
Notice that my screenshots shows I’m only level 265 but look at my Class skill points build. I terrorize level 400 or higher Mafia Wars toons who made the mistake of making their account Energy-heavy. A pro Mafia Wars player will shudder and avoid pissing me off. I made my Mafia Wars account a cold-blooded killer type! I have lots of Health Points and very high Defense and Attack rating.
True, I use dollar power and bought some virtual items with PayPal and I regret wasting that money now. But as I have said, it’s like smoking. You waste money on something that is causing you cancer – and you enjoy doing it!
I played in addict-mode from October to December of 2009. Believe me when I say I played Mafia Wars 10-16 hours every day. I played at home and I played at work! My girlfriend then dumped me because of Mafia Wars. I also stopped my daily French lessons because it was getting in the way of my Mafia Wars game time!
Heed my warning; don’t ever try playing Mafia Wars. It is worst than smoking. At least cigarettes only cause a few dollars every month. Mafia Wars can make you spend hundreds of dollars on it. I have a Level 1,044 Mafia Wars friend from Germany that bought more than $2,000 worth of Godfather Points from Zynga since 2008. He is a dentist and he is still hooked and playing— and spending his Euros on Mafia Wars up to now…
Quitting my Mafia Wars habit was my top New Year’s resolution. I’m glad I got over it. I now have the time to hang out with friends again. I might go back to my Pimsleur French CD lessons but first I am trying to shed 20 pounds I gained last year from compulsively playing Mafia Wars. Gotta do some walking and jogging!

I have 20 pounds more also. I used to be Mafia Wars addict, level 580, Mogul. Did not spend so much time as Sr. Almario, as I added all to energy for passing levels. Few times I thought to use paypal just to get Godfather points… Game can be only less then 5 minutes daily, if you use only energy. So 20 pounds is not from playing addictive game Mafia Wars, but from sitting in front of the computer all day long. Also I think that game should be terminated by law, as it contains violent texts and images, that many kids use as a role model, as from movies.
Well you got one thing right. The only thing that is bad about mafia wars is buying virtual goods with you hard earned money. But this is common with almost every game nowadays, in the form of “downloadable content” and “auctions”. I admit I pitched a few dollars to grab some needed consumables that would have taken me days to accumulate. To have someone else put in the labor to grind these was worth it for me. But I don’t see how your argument of 5-12 hours a playtime a day is valid. This is not WOW, this is a text based game. And being such, its possible to simply log in, spend your points, and come back tomorrow. Takes me about 5 minutes to spend my points and I usually check in again 8-12 hours later. Total of 10-15 minutes per day.
I do not recommend this Mafia Wars game to anyone!!! There are better things in life. I know someone, who will remain anonymous, who plays this game 24/7 and believes that it is the real world. He rarely sleeps, leaves the house or even washes!! He has been an addict for nearly 2 years now!

Totally agree. I was a Mafia Wars addict. My every waking thought was consumed by the desire to play Mafia Wars on FaceBook. I became a cloistered shut-in who neglected personal hygiene and lost touch with the real world of actual living people, opting instead to compulsively interact only with other virtual role-playing addicts. And what did it get me? NOTHING, but wasted time and wasted life. NEVER AGAIN! I am free from the MW addiction. I went cold turkey and deleted my 5 accounts. I turned my back on the virtual world. I have never felt better about a decision in my life. My parting message to those who still play MW – QUIT COLD TURKEY NOW!
