Windows 7 or Linux Ubuntu 8.10: Which is Faster After Windows 7 Tested Slow?

November 15, 2008 · Filed Under Windows · 21 Comments

Windows 7 was recently tested and it was found out that Windows 7 is not that fast (contrary to Microsoft’s hope that it will be faster than Windows Vista). This result was based on benchmark tests conducted by several beta testers of Windows 7. This begs the question “Which is faster between Windows 7 and Linux Ubuntu 8.10?” I even questioned in my article if Windows 7 is just an upgraded Windows Vista and testers confirmed that it actually was after testing.

On the other hand, Linux Ubuntu 8.10 is the latest Linux distro which I have tested myself and I really find the new Linux Ubuntu 8.10 very fast using my Lenovo G410 laptop. Windows 7 has yet to be tested by this author. Since the Windows 7 released by Microsoft for testing is still in the Beta stage, I might as well wait for the version up for public release in mid-2009 (Windows 7’s release date). For now, I will stick with Windows Vista and Linux Ubuntu 8.10 as my operating systems for my notebook.

I only hope that Microsoft can still come up with solutions to perceived speed problems and the Vista “look and feel” of Windows 7 before the release date. With Microsoft’s resources, I’m sure they’ll find ways to address the weaknesses of Windows 7 Beta. ;-)

Windows 7 Release: Just a Windows Vista Upgrade or a Separate Windows OS?

Recent news on the internet has it that Microsoft Corporation is going to release Windows 7 as their new operating system after Windows Vista did not perform well in the sales department. Windows Vista’s failure came when it did not outperform Windows XP as an operating system. In fact many users still prefer Windows XP over Windows Vista because the latter consumes so much of a computer’s memory and other resources slowing down processing and loading times of softwares. So, is Windows 7 just a Vista upgraded or a separate OS dressed up with new icons, themes and wallpapers? We’re not sure of the answer until we get our hands on it.
