After much thought, I finally purchased a Samsung Galaxy 5 i5503, a cheap android phone from an online merchant. I decided to buy it only two weeks ago after learning that the Galaxy 5 i5503 is running on Android OS 2.1! I also opted for it over other entry-level Android phones from LG and HTC because the Galaxy 5 i5503 is the only android phone equipped with a capacitive touchscreen in this class! I also had in mind 2 cheap android phones – the Huawei Ideos U8150-B (with Android OS 2.2 Froyo) and the new Yahoo Phone Alcatel OneTouch Net. For the price, these phones are bargain deals.
Samsung Galaxy 5 i5503: Cheap Android Phone with Android OS 2.1 Eclair
I was very happy to learn that Samsung Philippines has introduced their cheapest Android phone to our country, the Galaxy 5 i5503. This new Galaxy 5 i5503 Android phone is a Samsung Corby look-alike and ships with Android OS 2.1 (Eclair)and features a real capacitive touchscreen display. Samsung’s official branch here announced that this phone’s suggested retail price is 10,980 pesos which is a lot higher than the Samsung Galaxy 5 i5503’s selling price of $199 in India. The price disparity upsets me, $199 is only equivalent to around 9,200 pesos with our current peso-dollar rate!

Our past Samsung Galaxy S i9000 review was really justifiable when we had our hands on it. The Samsung Galaxy S i9000 android phone is truly a joy to have. My friend Almario got his Samsung Galaxy S model i9000 instead of the Galaxy Spica i5700 not because the guy has enough money to buy one but because he thought the new Samsung Galaxy S i9000 was way better in features. Compared to iPhone 4, our collective opinion makes the i9000 a clear winner. Sure, Apple’s mobile phone is an icon but Samsung isn’t taking the competition sitting down when it designed and released the Samsung Galaxy S series phones.

Rave reviews of Samsung Galaxy S i9000 Android phone is being enjoyed by Samsung as of late, which first saw light in European markets. But another Korean firm is keen to get in the spotlight, LG Electronics recently announced that they are planning to release their new Android 2.1 superphone, the LG Optimus Q, outside South Korea. The company debut it on the Korean market place last May unlocked for $768 and, according to them, sold very well. So much so that LG is now inspired to issue the Optimus Q globally.

Americans didn’t seem to notice that Samsung’s most powerful Android handset was launched a few weeks ago in Europe. While US consumers went all gaga over Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G’s launch party last June 3, Vodafone UK did a subdued unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S i9000 last June 15. Surprisingly, customers in the UK got the better deal because they were able to get this phone for free when they signed up for a 2-year contract (£35/month) with Vodafone! Except for the lack of 4G connectivity, I believe the Galaxy S i9000 is a better phone than the Sprint HTC EVO 4G or Nexus One android phone by Google. No offense meant, of course.
