Palm Releases Plug-in Development Kit (PDK) For WebOS
Palm Inc. is coming out with its own development platform for third-party application developers. In lieu of Google’s recent update to the Android OS with the NDKr3 version, Palm is fighting back with its own first ever Plug-in Development Kit for webOS. The Plug-in Development Kit is a new tool for developers to easily use C and C++ programming in tandem with the web technologies that powers webOS. The PDK will allow developers who already created games or softwares for the iPhone or Android handsets to seamlessly port them to webOS devices. Developers will no longer be hampered by incompatibility of machine codes.

Palm announced via email that the release date of Palm Pixi Plus on Verizon Wireless will be simultaneous with that of Palm Pre Plus smartphone’s. The scheduled Palm Pixi Plus release date, by the way, is today (Jan. 25, 2010) – and it’s already out the last time we checked the websites of Palm and Verizon. Please take note that the Palm Pre Plus features and specs are almost the same as Palm Pixi Plus except for the weight and dimensions of these two models. If you missed yesterday’s rebate on Palm Pre Smartphone on Walmart, don’t be so sad. Today, Palm Pre Multimedia Mobile Phone is offered for a price of $179.99 on Walmart with the same details. It is still far cheaper than the Palm Pre Smartphone deals currently offered on eBay without contracts (ranging from $250 – $380.00).

The exclusivity of Palm Pre Smartphone or Touchscreen Phone has long been an issue this year. Palm Pre was first released in June 6, 2009 exclusively by Sprint Nextel (carrier) in the United States of America. However, this Palm Pre exclusivity deal between Sprint Nextel (USA) and Palm will not take that long and soon Palm Pre Smartphone will also be available in another mobile phone or cellphone carrier – Verizon Wireless.
Why are these carriers competing to distribute this multi-touch screen mobile phone? It is because the Palm Pre Smartphone was tagged to be an iPhone killer. The Palm Mojo Software Development Kit (SDK Beta for developers only) was launched by Palm last week. This is specifically for Palm Pre but other models might be able to use the Palm Web OS once developments of apps via Web OS software development kit are done and ready for use. With Palm Pre gaining more popularity among mobile phone fanatics in the US and other parts of the globe (Philippines included), the move to allow web apps developers to openly participate in apps development is indeed very timely.
