Nokia Symbian 3 OS Revealed at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2010
Symbian 3 aka Symbian^3 Operating System for Nokia phones was announced by The Symbian Foundation and Nokia at MWC 2010 in Barcelona. They unveiled the first open-source version, Symbian 3 operating system (OS) to much fanfare. This is a speedy release since the Symbian Foundation only announced its conversion to the open-source platform last February 4.
OmniVision OV5647 Image Sensor Will Power Mobile Phone Cameras in The Future
OmniVision Technologies, a leader in digital imaging solutions has announced at MWC 2010 that they have created the world’s first mobile-centric image sensor that’s capable of shooting RAW pictures. The very small 0.25-inch Omnivision OV5647 is revolutionary in the sense that only expensive Digital SLR cameras are capable of capturing pictures in RAW format. All of the existing phones and PDAs right now are only able to take pictures in the compressed JPEG format. The advent of high-capacity memory cards for smart phones and PDAs is greatly compatible with OmniVision’s OV5647 image sensors. RAW pictures when stored eats up to 10x more file size but since it is uncompressed, mobile gadgets can finally capture true high-resolution photos! OmniVision is betting huge on the rising popularity of smart phones and this RAW-capable OV5647 certainly offers a feature that no other existing image sensors in the market has at the moment.

Microsoft finally unveiled Windows Mobile 7 OS at Barcelona MWC 2010 to the surprise of everyone. The world’s richest tech company is out to re-conquer the mobile industry. Microsoft’s overwhelming success with its desktop Windows 7 operating system has emboldened it. According to the Wall Street Journal, Steve Ballmer is already in Spain getting ready to launch its much-anticipated and long-delayed smart phone operating system upgrade. Microsoft insiders have hinted to the Wall Street Journal that Microsoft’s boss himself will reveal Photon to the public on February 15 during the Mobile World Congress 2010. It was originally scheduled for release in 2009 but Microsoft engineers decided to enhance it further in an attempt to offer more features than Google’s Android OS – the operating system of Nexus One Superphone.
