Amazon Kindle Promo Price and Nook 3G Ebook Reader Cheap Deals: $189 and $149

June 24, 2010 · Filed Under Internet News · 4 Comments

The e-reader market just got a big jolt right on the eve of Apple’s release of its free iPhone iOS 4 Firmware upgrade. First, Barnes & Noble reduced the asking price for their Nook 3G e-reader to just $199 and also announced the launch of the cheaper Nook WiFi version. This new Nook WiFi-only model will retail for just $149.00 and is now available for pre-order with delivery time next week. Amazon responded with the same price-reduction act and also announced that their Kindle 6-Inch Ebook Reader will now only sell for under $190. Note that the Kindle is now $ 10 cheaper and it has native Wifi and 3G support which makes it a better buy than the Nook 3G, unless of course, Barnes & Noble makes another price-cut for it to get to the same $189 price point.

Amazon Plans to Give Free Kindle Ebook Readers to Prime Subscribers

The online retailing giant is taking swipe at Apple’s aggressive encroachment to its e-book dominance. Jeff Bezos is obviously irate at Apple’s decision to offer iPad book publishers the right to price their electronic versions —- therefore undercutting Amazon’s fixed $9.99 rate per digital book rate. Most publishing giants are now defecting to the Apple iPad Tablet PC platform and abandoning the Kindle. It has been the main selling point of Kindle since 2007, cheap electronic bestsellers at a fixed $9.99.

Amazon recently announced they will be offering a free application to the public called “Kindle for Mac.” This free software will let people read content originally meant for the Kindle device on their Mac OS computers. This is an obvious pre-emptive retaliation against Apple’s scheduled April 3 launch for the iPad. Amazon is showing Apple that it can also play very aggressive especially now that some iPad Wi-Fi problems and E-Book incompatibility issues have been identified by users of the iPad.

Amazon Opens Up Kindle and Kindle DX to Developers

The online retail giant is answering the threat of the imminent introduction of Apple iPad. Amazon has to protect its Kindle supremacy in the ebook reader category. This is because Apple Tablet PC (iPad) is also going to function as an e-book reader not only for books but also for news and magazines, and the Kindle has to expand to keep up with its closest competition as of the moment.

The Kindle had tremendous sales figure for 2009 and has been confirmed as the most-gifted item from Amazon last holiday season! No exact figures have been disclosed, but Amazon has admitted the Kindle e-reader has outsold all others toys, gadgets and gizmos. The company also said they sold much more electronic versions of books compared to the physical paper versions during last year’s yuletide holiday. Experts said it is because buyers needed lots of e-books to fill up the thousands of new Kindle units. For developers, the Kindle Simulator will be very helpful. This tool will help developers build and test their content by simulating the 6-inch Kindle and 9.7-inch Kindle DX device on different platforms – Mac, PC, and Linux desktops.
