Google Me Social Networking Platform is Being Developed According to Ex-Facebook CTO
First it was Digg.com founder Kevin Rose who started the rumor that Google has been recruiting people to create their new social networking platform tentatively called Google Me. This social networking site is rumored to compete (and probably destroy) Facebook, which recently added Face Detection Technology as a new feature. He hinted that he was approached by Google headhunters to join their team. Now this tale is further being hyped up because Adam D’Angelo, former Chief Technology Officer of Facebook, has also publicly declared on his social networking website, Quora, that Google is really working on putting up Google Me with many people already involved in the project. D’Angelo called Google Me “a top priority project” that is being modeled on Facebook. It is not Orkut 2.0, Google is building this project from the ground up.
Gmail Users Sue Google for Google Buzz Launch
Google was already licking its wounds from the virulent reaction by Gmail users to the introduction of Google Buzz – the social networking app in Gmail. The backlash from millions of angry people came from Buzz’s auto-follow feature where in Gmail account owners who activated Buzz raised privacy issues. Gmail users were initially griping that Google’s attempt of turning Gmail into a social networking platform wasn’t what they signed up for. They just wanted a free and reliable webmail service. How ironic that Google’s noble attempt to break Facebook’s almost-monopoly hold on social networking has landed in court.
Google Buzz: Gmail’s Social Networking App Ala Facebook
Since Facebook recently announced that they are developing their own email system, Google retaliated with the release of its own social networking application, Google Buzz. This open-source social networking was released a few days ago and is tightly integrated with Gmail. I already have it on my Google Gmail account and I am excited to have tested this new app this week. My conclusion: the Google Buzz App is an exciting new feature in Gmail. Game Apps could be on their way to your Google Mail accounts after this development (suspicion).
