Mac and Linux users who needs a free and stable Bittorrent program should consider my favorite cross-platform program, Transmission 2.0. I found it to be the fastest Bittorrent desktop app for Mac OS and it’s a lot more memory-efficient than Vuze. The open-source community for developing this small but very fast Bittorrent client has just released version 2.0. and this free P2P file sharing program is now available for free download on their website (http://www.transmissionbt.com/download.php). Aside from the Mac OS X version, there are also available packages for popular Linux Distros like Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, OpenSuse, etc…There’s even installers for Unix and other OSes like Solaris and FreeBSD.

RetroShare Freeware Review: One of the Best Free Cross-Platform P2P File Sharing Programs

July 14, 2010 · Filed Under File Sharing Programs · 1 Comment

Here’s another freeware for you – a free P2P file sharing software similar to Limewire and Frostwire. If you have a need for a secure way to share your files with your friends, I suggest you try Retroshare whose download link can be found at http://retroshare.sourceforge.net/index.html. It’s an open source program that surprisingly does cross-platform private file sharing in a decentralized manner (no server needed). Once you install this program, you and your trusted friends can securely chat or share files. RetroShare is also very ideal for co-workers to send and receive sensitive materials without the need to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Is Limewire illegal? Technically, Limewire is NOT illegal. It is a legitimate software which has gained a name for itself. It even has a commercial (PRO) version. The malicious use of Limewire by way of using it to install malwares and embed malicious codes within files shared across networks makes it an illegal act. Read more

Download Frostwire: Free P2P File Sharing Program

April 28, 2009 · Filed Under File Sharing Programs · 9 Comments

Frostwire is pretty much a Limewire clone based on features, graphical user interface, connection, etc. The huge difference is it is an opensource file sharing software – totally free and downloadable from so many places online. It’s a good alternative to Limewire especially if you need faster download speeds. According to the manufacturer, Frostwire has no spywares, adwares and other malicious softwares/scripts in it. While that could be true, the files you download using Frostwire could still be infected with viruses, trojans, malwares and adwares. The same thing can be said about Limewire.

Download Free File Sharing Programs (P2P) and Share Files

February 26, 2009 · Filed Under File Sharing Programs · 3 Comments

There are many free file sharing programs that you can actually download online. Some of the file sharing programs I use are BitTorrent and microTorrent – both P2P (peer-to-peer softwares). With these file sharing programs, people can actually share their photos, documents, videos and free softwares online. There is one problem with these file sharing programs though – download speeds are variable depending on the number of ‘seeders’ (people sharing the same file). The more seeders, the better.
