Free Facebook Games and Myspace Games Played by 20 Percent of US Users Everyday!
Hurray! The recession in America has not dampened the enthusiasm of its citizen for free Facebook games like FarmVille and Cafe World. Market research firm NPD Group released their latest survey findings. It’s quite impressive, 20% of the whole American population has played or actively playing social games the past 3 months. This means almost 57 million Americans are hooked on social gaming!
NPD Group’s report also revealed that 35% of those said people were first-time gamers. They never had any experience in playing other video games and only got their baptismal fire on social networking sites like Facebook or MySpace. The viral success of Facebook has infected a lot of users with the gamer bug. Farmville and Mafia Wars showed a lot of Americans how to have fun without spending too much money. Friendship and family ties also got strengthened by common enemies at Mafia Wars. LOL!
The world’s biggest social gaming outfit, Zynga, is delighted by this report from NPD Group. The start-up company has already amassed gazillions of real dollars from selling virtual items to FarmVille addicts. Facebook officially acknowledged that half of their 500 million users are active gamers. Although only 10% or 25 million players spent real money to improve their social gaming experience by buying virtual pets or weapons, Facebook said these sales alone has generated almost $ 1 billion for third-party developers.
I too spent real money on Mafia Wars. I can’t say how much here, my ex-girlfriend might go ballistic on me again. I used her credit card. ROFL.
