Meteor Shower News: Perseid Meteor Shower Seen Today
Last week, scientists predicted that the Perseid Meteor Shower will be seen today. The Perseid Meteor Shower is actually a yearly phenomenon. In the Philippines, we also see these natural phenomena (meteor showers) but the most significant one was I think the meteor shower that happened in 2005 or 2006 (Sorry I can’t recall the exact date).
According to experts, the Perseids are bits of debris left by comet Swift-Tuttle. The debris is like a river of small particles in space, and each year, Earth passes through it. As the bits zoom through our atmosphere at 37 miles per second (60 kps) they vaporize, creating the brilliant streaks of light. Most of the meteors are no larger than a grain of sand.
The shower is typically best between midnight and dawn, when the side of Earth you are standing on is plowing into the stream as our planet plunges through space in its orbit around the sun. It’s similar to how bugs hit the windshield of a moving car but rarely smack into the rear bumper.
Meteor showers are so fun to watch. I’ve seen a few of them. It’s like watching a beautiful display of fireworks. Take some time to look at the sky at night and you might see a meteor shower by chance. Some of them could only be short bursts of light while some can last for a few a minute or two.

Saw the show last night. 15 -20 an hour. Saw a fireball due west at 85 deg that left a tail to the northern horizon. took up half the sky and lasted a good 5 sec. Burned up at about 10 deg due north
Awesome
