Leonid Meteor Shower on November 17 Expected
A strong Leonid meteor shower is expected to light up the heavens on November 17, 2009. Mark your calendar for it is definitely worth watching a rare spectacle just like the annual Perseid Meteor shower that comes very month of August. This heavenly show (Leonid Meteor Shower) favors those living in central and Eastern Asia. The anticipated most intense activity will be around 21:40 GMT (time to watch).
Meanwhile, a potentially enjoyable display of a few dozen can be seen in North America. Leonid Meteor observers in the United States and Canada should expect them between 3:30 and 5:30 EST. The spectacle will be particularly bright and strong because it will be a new moon on November 16 coincidentally.
The Leonids are known to be cosmic garbage from a small dusty comet about 2.2 miles in diameter discovered sometime in the late 19th century and named Tempel-Tuttle. The Leonids are generally though of as a remnant of Comet Temple-Tuttle because the dust is moving around the sun in virtually the same orbit as the come. These fragments not larger than the a pea touches our atmosphere at speeds of 45 miles per second, causing them to burn brightly in the night sky.
These fragments may be considered a cosmic garbage, but to me even a small streak of light ahead of me makes me wonder about how great life is. So why not circle that day on your calendar and set a date with mother nature.
