Windows Phone 7 Series Not Yet Compatible with Current Smart Phones
A previous article on this site posted an official confirmation that Microsoft’s new mobile operating system – Windows Phone 7 Series will not support Windows Mobile OS third-party apps. Those applications were created previously for Windows Mobile OS 6.5 and older versions. This development has already inflamed other people who expected backwards compatibility software-wise. The thought that Microsoft has abandoned makers and buyers of third-party mobile phone apps for existing Windows Mobile 6.x devices is already a big disappointment.
Brace yourself for one more surprise memo. Microsoft has also officially confirmed that due to the strict hardware requirements of Windows Phone 7 Series, no available smart phone or mobile gadget on the market right now will be supported. This announcement should further upset some people who bought expensive Sony or HTC smart phones (such as the newly released HTC HD2) — they will not be able to upgrade their current Windows Mobile 6.5 OS to the new Windows Phone 7 Series OS!
Microsoft is strictly enforcing their new policy requiring smart phone manufacturers to create brand new models that are fully compatible with their Windows Phone 7 Series operating system. Microsoft has decided to follow the example of Apple Inc. in making their partner hardware companies comply 100% with their product specifications. This is not surprising; Google already did these with their upcoming Chrome OS. The online giant has partnered with netbook manufacturers to produce netbook models purposely created for Google Chrome OS. Microsoft has wizened up and realizes that their softwares have been maligned before because of bugs and crashes. These software glitches have been avoided by Apple in most of their products because Steve Jobs and company dictated all their partner hardware manufacturers to full 100% compliance according to Apple’s product design and specifications.
Microsoft has declined to divulge in-depth details but they said a number of services providers and mobile phone manufacturers have agreed to add Windows Phone 7 Series handsets to their offerings. The list of Microsoft’s partners on Windows Phone 7 OS will be posted on a separate article.
