How to Update Nexus One Phone to Android OS 2.2 Froyo
Google has already started rolling out the Froyo update for Google Nexus One phone and it might take weeks before you get the OTA for Android OS 2.2 Froyo. If you are impatient or shall we say too excited to try out this supercharged update, here is a simple trick to do a manual update for your Nexus One.
First you must heed this warning. This trick will only work on a stock Nexus One handset. If you rooted it already, forget about doing these steps because the whole thing won’t work.
- First step (using your computer or notebook) is for you to download the firmware for Android OS 2.2 Froyo. You have to search for it because Google took down the official site for it and they have been taking down mirror sites too. If you can’t find one, try this link .
- Next is you need to rename the file downloaded to “update.zip.” The firmware is already in .zip format so make sure you don’t make it update.zip.zip. Just change the file name and leave the .zip format extension.
- Transfer the said update.zip to your Nexus One’s miniSD card.
- Turn off your Nexus One phone.
- Power on the phone while pressing the trackball.
- Next is you’ll be booted into a white screen with three Android robots on skateboards. Please choose “Bootloader.”.
- Select “Recovery”
- Your phone will then reboot and it will show an Android robot and an exclamation point inside a triangle.
- When you see that exclamation point, press the Power button and Volume Up button at the same time.
- Last step is to use the trackball to select “Apply sdcard:update.zip”.
- When you get the “Install from sdcard complete” message, choose “reboot system now”.
There you have it, your phone’s going to be running Froyo after it reboots. Remember this trick only works for stock and unmodified Google Nexus One android phone.
