Date Published: November 8, 2009

What is Google Chrome OS? It it another desktop PC operating system competing with Windows or Linux? Is Google Chrome operating system a Windows-like or maybe Linux-like OS for desktops and laptops? Well, the answer is a resounding NO! Really, the new Google Chrome OS is intriguing. It has caused a stir in me when I heard the advent of new Internet based operating system. This operating system is like, Google Chrome is geared towards  users of the internet. Where people who live on the web — searching for information, checking email, catching up on the news, shopping or just staying in touch with friends. Sounds nice, huh?

The new Operating System called Google Chrome OS is planned to be run on X86 and ARM processors. Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS. Google is designing the OS to be fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds. The OS is being designed to be highly secure or should in a different manner so that malwares and viruses will be a thing of the past. Sounds like a pretty secure OS, in our opinion (if Google can deliver all its promises).

Google Chrome OS will be open sourced soon for the public to make their own contributions to the code and develop the OS with whatever they see as appropriate. I agree that this step is important to keep the OS to the public and support to the OS will definitely grow stronger with many active developers working together on the OS.

Google Chrome OS is a new project, separate from Android. Android was designed from the beginning to work across a variety of devices from phones to set-top boxes to netbooks. Google Chrome OS is being created for people who spend most of their time on the web, and is being designed to power computers ranging from small netbooks to full-size desktop systems. While there are areas where Google Chrome OS and Android overlap, we believe choice will drive innovation for the benefit of everyone, including Google.

With speed, functionality and simplicity, the new Google Chrome operating system is good for netbooks and mobile phones. We just hope it will stay this way even if more and more features will be added in future releases of the OS. Google Chrome Operating System FAQ page/site was also created by Google to help those who wish to seek more info on this free OS from Google. For your info, Google Chrome OS Beta is already out and if you’re itching to try this operating system, then go ahead and tell us what you think after giving it a test drive. But before that, download the Google Chrome OS Beta first from download links online. For us here, we’re not doing that for now as we are still busy exploring Windows 7 Ultimate and we so far love it. We’ll follow up on this after our tests are done.
