Zyxel X150N Wireless N Router Review: Cheapest Router Model for $39.99 MSRP
Zyxel Communications Inc. announced the availability of X150N wireless N router, a full-featured 802.11n router that is not only fast and easy to use but also sets new record for being the cheapest router in the market. The Zyxel X150N Wireless N Router has a suggested retail price of only $39.99. This low price was made possible by Zyxel’s trick of making this router support the “light-version” of wireless-N technology or the single-stream router mode.
Consequently, this cheap router has a max-capped speed of 150Mbps, only half of what dual-stream 802.11n routers can deliver. This speed is still very snappy since it is 3x faster than the old wireless-G routers, web surfing and watching streaming videos should be a breeze.
Just like other Zyxel products, the X150N ships with on-board firewall. It also X150N’s boasts one-button encryption that protects your router’s signal with WPA2 AES encryption technology. You can check if you can Recover Lost Router Password or Key Using RouterPassView with this wireless device.
Users are even provided with a single push-button to create a secured connection with any Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)-enabled client without the need to type in the encryption key. These security features are usually found on other more expensive 802.11n routers but Zyxel’s kind enough to include them in a sub-$40 product.
Zyxel is so generous that they also included a parental control program that allows parents to block offensive web content for their children. Hence, for added protection, Zyxel X150N is one of the must-have networking tools in your homes and offices. However, if you have adequate budget for tools such as wireless N router, check out Trendnet’s 450Mbps Wireless-N TEW-691GR Router – the fastest router we know of its class, but definitely more pricey than the Zyxel model. But for a SOHO (Small Office Home Office) with a maximum of 5 computers, we recommend you buy the Zyxel X150N as this wireless N router can pretty much cope with most common online tasks like sending emails, browsing and connecting with friends on Facebook.
Finally, if you are in a mood to replace your old 802.11 b/g router, the Zyxel X150N is a cheap upgrade. The low price is a good trade-off for the 150Mbps speed increase.
