The Beta Version of Device Tune-Up App, a utility app that speeds up android phones is now offered by T-Mobile. Android phone owners who are T-Mobile subscribers may now enjoy faster performance for their Android 2.1 or older phones with the help of T-Mobile’s free but beta version of Device Tune-up application. According to the company, Device Tune-up is made to run in the background at all times and will continuously optimize your phone by closing unused services that are running. It is different from the free Task Killer app for Android phones like Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 (read my hands-on review of the android phone) and Motorola i1 because the free Device Tune-up app will not require any action from the user.
This free android app (in Beta), once installed, will run by default in “on” mode of system optimization. It will automatically close programs and other services that are no longer active. This will proactively free-up memory and thus keep your phone running smoothly. Furthermore, Device Tune-up’s background operations will also help your battery last longer. T-Mobile assures customers that this app won’t affect pre-loaded applications.
To test this beta version of Device Tune-up, you mush have My Account 3.3 installed already. If not you may download it from the Android Market. Once done, you must configure it to allow installation of non-market applications (Settings > Applications > check the box “Unknown Sources”). After which, you may now download the beta from this location – http://projps.t-mobile.com/W/server/123/directitem/Z35896 – and install the .apk file. Again, this version will only work for Android OS 2.1 and older versions. Don’t try running this free app if you already have Android OS 2.2 Froyo installed.
