MADFINGER Games announced the release of the Apple iPad Tablet PC version of their best-selling iPhone role-playing game Samurai: Way of the Warrior. This new version is the same hack-en-slash bloody game but the graphics has been reworked to take advantage of the iPad’s huge display screen. In fact, the developers made so much improvement on the game’s graphics that they are calling the iPad version the Samurai: Way of the Warrior HD! This game version’s beautiful Japanese fantasy world features detailed cel-shaded graphics and fluid animation.
As with the iPhone and iPod Touch version, Samurai: Way of the Warrior for the iPad still runs the same storyline. There are no puzzles to solve, all you need to do is go run around and kill enemies. This is my kind of game, fight to win. No wasted time trying to figure out complicated plots or puzzles. The high-definition graphics on the iPad is exhilarating! The developers made sure this game will get industry buzz for its violent theme. MADFINGER’s brilliant use of the Mortal Kombat blood-splatter-gore technique is winning old-school gamers. Lots of realistic blood will drop on this game but the intuitive game play will win new fans. The game controls are based on gestures. You tap to move to a new place but you can also move by moving your finger above the display. Your Samurai hero will follow the direction of your finger. You can hack and slash enemies with a swipe of your finger! Just swipe towards the direction of your enemy and your hero will attack it with his Katana sword.
This iPad game also features an excellent combo system where you do much more damage to enemies if you do the correct finger swipe combinations. I was able to do up to 12 hits against a single target with my Katana! Your basic attacks are done by swiping to the left, to the right or up. But as you progress in the game, you get access to better sword skill combos that must be executed in the correct manner to achieve devastating combo attacks. One good combo will even let you decapitate your enemies! As I have mentioned before, this iPad game is not for the weak-hearted. It’s gruesome to say the least.
It is possible to dodge or block attacks from the enemy. Swipe your finger above the screen just as your enemy is preparing to attack and your Samurai will dodge or block the assault and will even do a counterattack move! Proper timing is important to do this so time your dodge finger swipe. It will fail if you do it too early or too late. You will have to kill all the enemies so you can unlock the gates to progress in Samurai: Way of the Warrior. Practice your finger swiping because the more your progress, the more enemies you will encounter. You will often find yourself fighting multiple enemies and only good attack combos will help you survive. A perfect execution of a skill combo will damage multiple enemies.
There are two modes on this game. You can do the storyline and finish the game as the legendary Samurai Warrior, Daisuke Shimada. You can immediately go through the different levels of this game but every level conquered means you will have to face tougher opponents. It can be frustrating if you keep dying so MADFINGER developers also included a practice game mode for this iPad Game. You can go practice your combo skills at the ‘Deadly Dojo’. You will need to achieve perfect finger swiping to destroy your enemies.
The Samurai: Way of the Warrior HD is available for purchase at iTunes Store for $4.99. Make sure you have at least 50 MB of free space on your iPad before you install this game. Five dollars may seem expensive but it’s all worth it. Aside from the immersive gameplay on the iPad, you can also go online and play against your friends via AGON Online service. Due to the violent nature of this iPad game, you must be at least 17 years old to purchase it.
