Mozilla Firefox Home App for iPhone and iPod Touch Ready for iTunes AppStore Approval

Date Published: July 15, 2010

Mozilla Labs, the non-profit firm responsible for the second-most popular web browser Firefox, has submitted their first ever official iPhone app to Apple. The iPhone phenomenon has been around for almost 3 years but it is only now that the development team is releasing an iPhone-compatible but watered-down version of its robust Firefox web browser. They are optimistic they won’t have any trouble getting approved for distribution on the iTunes App Store. After all, Apple allowed Opera Mini quickly without a fuss even though it competes with Safari on the iPhone.

The first official app by Mozilla Labs: Firefox Home App for the iPhone and iTouch

Firefox Home won’t be a full-featured browser though. It is a tiny app that will only let you access your desktop Firefox browsing history, bookmarks and recently-opened tabs. Searching will be possible by using the Awesome Bar of this app. It will essentially let you find the websites you most-frequently visit on your desktop or laptop computer. Take note, this app will only work if you have installed the Firefox Sync add-on on your desktop computer.

Before you complain that Mozilla Labs is being lazy and they should really release a full-browser for iOS 4, please remember that those people aren’t getting paid. Most of them have full-time jobs and can only work on Firefox Home app during their free time so let’s just be thankful for what they can offer. :-)
