Ambarish Kenghe, Google TV Product Manager announced on Google TV’s official blog that they already released the Google TV Remote app for iOS 3.0 or higher devices. If you happen to own a Sony or Logitech Revue for Google TV product and an iPhone 4 or Apple iPad tablet PC, this free remote control app is now live at iTunes, the free download link and info page can be found here –
Kenghe says using the Google TV Remote app with your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS or iPod Touch will improve the viewing pleasure of all Google TV owners. They finally acknowledge that not all Google TV owners own Android phones and instead uses Apple products. Google released an app for the Android phone owners last December but many customers also requested a version for the iPhone platform.
Google TV Remote for the iPhone works the same way as the one released for Android operating system in December of 2010. Your Google TV product should be connected to a Wi-Fi network so that your iPhone or iPad 2 (and iPad 1) can connect to it.
This free iOS app lets you enjoy multi-touch operation to control your Google TV. Change channels, access the DVR, and adjust volume. With the iPhone’s backlight, you can even control your TV in total darkness without fumbling for the buttons like you would with a regular remote.
Lastly, Google TV Remote for the iPhone also support voice search. You can look up your favorite TV shows just by speaking to your iPhone or iPad. Unfortunately, this version now only supports the English language but hopefully, Google will update it soon with support for more languages. Best of all, this has been tested to work flawlessly with Apple’s iOS 4.3 which was released on the first week of this month.
Be warned, though, this app will work with all iPhone/iPad products especially the new iPad 2 Tablet PC. So if you live with other family members that also own an iOS device, don’t tell him or her about this app. This way you get ultimate control of what you all should be watching on your Google TV!
