Microsoft Windows Mobile 7 OS Unveiled at Barcelona MWC 2010

Date Published: February 22, 2010

Microsoft finally unveiled Windows Mobile 7 OS at Barcelona MWC 2010 to the surprise of everyone. The world’s richest tech company is out to re-conquer the mobile industry. Microsoft’s overwhelming success with its desktop Windows 7 operating system has emboldened it. According to the Wall Street Journal, Steve Ballmer is already in Spain getting ready to launch its much-anticipated and long-delayed smart phone operating system upgrade. Microsoft insiders have hinted to the Wall Street Journal that Microsoft’s boss himself will reveal Photon to the public on February 15 during the Mobile World Congress 2010. It was originally scheduled for release in 2009 but Microsoft engineers decided to enhance it further in an attempt to offer more features than Google’s Android OS – the operating system of Nexus One Superphone.

Windows Mobile 7 or Windows Phone 7 OS: Which is a Better Name?

This new upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.5 is codenamed Photon and reports have leaked that Photon’s interface will closely resemble Microsoft’s super popular ZUNE HD Portable Media Player. Photon will also integrate XBOX gaming features like Gamer tag, achievements, friends, avatars, and merchandising. The embedded ZUNE HD software code hints that Windows Mobile 7 OS will be able to seamlessly sync with Microsoft’s high-end portable media player. Rumor has it that Mobile 7 will also offer tight integration with social networking connectivity and will have inherent Silverlight 3.0 support. The new Zune HD-like home page is going to be awesome and proven eyecandy. In addition, Photon will brandish support for HTC-designed TouchFlo and Sense interface.

Microsoft is going to have a very sweet surprise to all Mobile World Congress 2010 attendees. Mr. Steve Ballmer himself will do the presentation. Microsoft employees are playing coy and even refused to confirmed if their new mobile operating system will still be called Windows Mobile 7. Geek gossip has it that Microsoft marketing gurus are planning to make a new start. They want to call Windows Mobile 7 Photon the all-new Windows Phone 7 OS. Take that Google and Apple, Bill Gates and the gang are coming to your turf with a brand new weapon. Windows Phone 7 is more apt and offers a complete breakaway from its old boring moniker.
