Download Free Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) Optimized for Yahoo!

Date Published: April 7, 2009

Since last week, Yahoo Messenger keeps popping up messages saying that Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) is now ready for download on the Microsoft website (where else can you download it for free if not from the creators’ website). Apparently, IE8 was designed and optimized for Yahoo. Meanwhile, to start off this short review of the IE8 Beta we downloaded and tested a few weeks ago, all I can say is the new IE is ok, but not great.

The latest Internet Explorer 8 shows a lot of improvement compared to the slow and vulnerable IE7 and earlier versions. It has introduced and integrated some neat features similar to Firefox and Flock. Overall, the latest IE8 release was a mile better than its predecessors but here are what we have observed about it that we really do not like:

1) IE8 still loads some pages erroneously. Some page formats and web elements do not show the way they should be despite the fact that there is a built-in compatibility view for older browsers in IE8. I can’t even view my blogs properly when using this browser.

2) When links within an article are set to open in New Windows, they actually open in new windows. Am I making sense here? I shouldn’t be complaining because that’s what it’s supposed to do right? But no. Actually, this is what makes me and many other users tick when using IE8. Unlike in Firefox, Flock, Opera and Google Chrome, when links are set to open in new windows, the linked pages actually open in NEW TABS. This behavior saves the computer a lot of resources because it doesn’t have to load again another set of javascripts. Opening linked pages in New Windows is annoying and resource-intensive. The only way to open these links in new tabs is to right-click on the link and select “Open in New Tabs”. Also, it is this behavior in opening links that IE8 and Safari 4 are very much the same.

I have this to say. I have tried Firefox, Google and Google Chrome, as well as IE9. The experience I have had with them is they continuously shut me down, freeze me up, and so much more. I really get so tired of it. IE8 has done the best job for me. When using it; I don’t have to worry about all this stuff going wrong. So please, give it and me a break. I will use nothing else. Now imagine I still use Vista and have for over 4 years. Yaw, it may be out dated according to some, but it so far has done me good. I do hope someday to move on to Windows 7, or maybe by that time u will say something else out there is better, that I can afford. Right now I got the best.
