Fix Win32/Amalum.zzpdb Virus: Removal and Detection

Date Published: July 9, 2009

If you have been infected with Win32/Amalum.zzpdb virus and other variants (amalum.zznra, amalum.zzoiz, amalum.zzoaf), then read this. The Amalum virus (more popularly known these days as Win32/Amalum.zzpdb) is a false positive detection result by CA Antivirus software. Many users of CA Antivirus find this  annoying because it has created an unnecessary problem.

Amalum virus (win32/amalum.zzpdb and variants named above), when detected warns  the user that “files that are required for windows to operate properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore the original versions of these files. Insert your Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 CD now.“. According to some CA Antivirus employees, this is a mistake/error in detection and hope to correct the error in 24 hours or less.

If yo have been troubled by the Amalum virus, worry not as this is only a temporary problem caused by an erring antivirus software declaring Windows components as viruses. You really don’t have to do anything to remove the Amalum “virus”. Just ignore the warnings messages.

I have been having problems with CA Anti-Virus since the 19th of June. It continually informs me that I have a virus/malware called “Win32\Amalum” with various extensions such as BCTIB, ZZNRA, ZZNPB, ZZOKH, ZZOAF, ZZOCR and ZZNXU. I have read your instructions Re: fixing this issue that CA put on it’s website, but not being greatly computer literate, it,s all just gobble de gook to me. Needless to say THIS IS REALLY P@%%ING ME OFF. My Product Version is 4.0.0.205 and CA A/V is 9.0.0.174 with the Sig 6608. I have found their Website less than helpful on this issue. Having been a long term user of CA Anti-Virus and prior to that, VET (a company taken over by them) I must say that I am extremely disappointed.
