Verizon Wireless quits being a recalcitrant and used the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona to announce that it will allow unlimited free Skype calls over its 3G network. Verizon and Skype has agreed to terms that a version of Skype Mobile is going to be available starting Match of 2010. The Verizon Wireless promo will apply to 9 best-selling handsets of Verizon including BlackBerry Storm 9530, Blackberry Storm 2 9550, Blackberry Curve 8330, Blackberry Curve 8530, Blackberry 8830 World Edition and Blackberry Tour 9630 smartphones, as well as Motorola Droid, HTC DROID ERIS and Motorola DEVOUR.
Get Free Calls Using Skype With Verizon Wireless 3G Plans
Verizon customers with smart phones and corresponding data plan will be able to make and receive unlimited Skype to Skype calls not only from the U.S. but from all over the globe too. Using Skype Mobile, Verizon plan holders may call international phone numbers at Skype’s discounted rates. Lastly, they can send and receive messages from other Skype users at no extra cost.
Mr. John Stratton, the executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless, declared, “Skype mobile on Verizon Wireless changes the game. For Verizon Wireless’ more than 90 million customers, Skype mobile adds great value because we’re effectively giving customers with smartphones and data plans the option to extend their unlimited calling community to hundreds of millions of Skype users around the globe. And you’re not limited to using a single type of phone; we’ll have nine smartphones ready right at launch in March.”
Verizon is doing the right thing incorporating the very popular Skype app. More and more people are choosing it to call business associates, friends and relatives rather than doing expensive cellular phone calls. AT&T iPhone customers already enjoyed limitless Skype calling since October 2009. Verizon had no choice but to give in to the tremendous pressure from its customers’ demand that it must allow 3G Skype calling or else… Under threat of en-masse cancellation of data plan subscribers, Verizon finally quit being such a stooge. I only hope Verizon won’t mess up the voice quality of Skype calls on purpose just to force its customers back to using regular phone calls. Let us all see what will happen this March. Will the Verizon Skype voice call quality at par? Or will it be so poor and garbled that people will give up using it and go back to using Verizon’s regular pricey phone calls?
