Dell Adamo XPS Notebook: World’s Thinnest Laptop Production Discontinued
In a sad turn of event, Dell Inc. has stopped production of its 0.39 inch thick Adamo XPS notebook. This magnificent creation of high-tech engineering was only launched last November 2009. Dell’s online shop already erased the Adamo XPS and will no longer be available for sale there. In response to customer queries, Dell confirmed that the Adamo XPS will no longer be manufactured and sold by them.
“While the Adamo XPS was certainly an engineering marvel, it also was a limited edition product with a limited number of units available,” a Dell spokesperson concluded.
This is a disheartening development confirmed by Dell. The Adamo XPS at only 1 cm thick is twice as thin as MacBook Air. Dell engineers created a wonderful laptop that made headlines last year. It certainly stole the thinnest laptop crown from Macbook Air. CNET and other major tech review sites called it the best Windows 7 laptop of 2009. Clever Dell engineers redefined traditional laptop design to achieve the 9.99 mm thinness of the Adamo XPS. They moved certain components and made a special keyboard that fits snugly inside the reinforced display even if it’s closed. It also opens in a very unorthodox manner. You have to swipe your finger over a capacitive latch sensor. After you do this the keyboard unlocks and separates or cantilevers from the widescreen 13.4 inch display.
Dell engineers designed it in such a way that when opened, the display screen sits up several inches higher providing user better viewing angle. This smart configuration also provides better cooling mechanism for the Adamo XPS.
Features-wise, the Adamo packs enormous computing power. On a head to head review, the Adamo XPS clearly offers serious competition to the Macbook Air.
The 4GB DDR3 RAM of the Adamo XPS and the flash-based 128GB hard drive beats Macbook Air’s default configuration. It should be obvious to any expert that this laptop is not only thinner but a faster machine. Unfortunately, Dell has stopped selling the Adamo XPS. The company called it a limited edition product that they already stopped making. How sad.
