Amazon Kindle Promo Price and Nook 3G Ebook Reader Cheap Deals: $189 and $149

Date Published: June 24, 2010

The e-reader market just got a big jolt right on the eve of Apple’s release of its free iPhone iOS 4 Firmware upgrade. First, Barnes & Noble reduced the asking price for their Nook 3G e-reader to just $199 and also announced the launch of the cheaper Nook WiFi version. This new Nook WiFi-only model will retail for just $149.00 and is now available for pre-order with delivery time next week. Amazon responded with the same price-reduction act and also announced that their Kindle 6-Inch Ebook Reader will now only sell for under $190. Note that the Kindle is now $ 10 cheaper and it has native Wifi and 3G support which makes it a better buy than the Nook 3G, unless of course, Barnes & Noble makes another price-cut for it to get to the same $189 price point.

Amazon took $70 off from the Kindle 6-Inch Ebook Reader With Global Wireless

The Nook and Kindle are the best-selling e-readers in the world but the release of the iPad last April has eaten up sales. Apple is reportedly selling 1 million units of iPad every month even though the cheapest model is $499. Apple has launched the iBookstore market specifically to push the iPad’s e-reader feature. The pressure on e-reader products is only getting worst, Apple released its new iOS 4.0 update a few days back which includes the iBooks 1.1 app. There are more than 100 million iPhone or iPod Touch owners that can now access iBookstore. Phones may have smaller screen but why buy a Kindle or a Nook when you can already get digital books on your phone. Reading will not be comfortable under a small screen but it’s workable. Both Amazon and Barnes & Noble acknowledged this. Furthermore, smartphone models like the HTC EVO 4G and the new Verizon Motorola Droid X are now coming out with display screens larger than 4-inches. Don’t forget that there are also smartphone apps that does text-to-speech which makes any phone a good e-reader option.

The price war between e-reader makers will continue. Expect to see premium e-readers like the Kindle to hit the $100 price level soon. If, for instance you want to buy the 6-inch Kindle E-book Reader with global wireless, go to this Amazon page and get your brand new Kindle unit now – Kindle Wireless Reading Device (6″ Display, Global Wireless, Latest Generation).

Also, the future influx of cheap Android tablet computers will render dedicated e-reader gadgets to fade into marginalized existence. Once iPad clones from China starts hitting U.S. markets for $150 or less, the Kindle, Nook and other e-readers will have to evolve with more features or else they’ll perish.

Why are all these tags containing “discount code” and “promo code” here when there is absolutely no mention of any codes or discounts in the article?

@Bryan, Hi! The “Related Tags” is a section containing the search terms users used. It’s a plugin so those phrases were automatically fetched. The “discount code” and “promo code” phrases must have been crawled from our sidebars or related articles at the time they were available in the sidebar.

Even the “Related Posts” section is a dynamic part of this site. The set of articles in the related post changes every time our databse is updated (whenever we publish new articles) so those keywords must have been crawled by bots in the past and since then registered in the “Related Tags” section. Again, this is automated because a specific plugin has been installed in this site.

As webmasters, it’s also our way of knowing the things that matter most to our readers. You might want to use the phrases “discount codes or promo codes” in our built-in SEARCH box and see if you can find what you are looking for. I hope this clears the issue. Thanks!
