After Apple iPad 3G Release Date, Will Apple iPad Tablet PC Succeed?

Industry pundits are in a dilemma when the iPad 3G release date is reached. The January 27 announcement of Apple’s latest gadget, iPad Tablet PC (Wi-fi and Wi-fi + 3G) models, were initially lauded as a great step forward for the tablet computer concept. Microsoft has been trying the past 9 years to sell their tablet pc concept to people but poor sales has made HP, Dell, Fujitsu and other hardware manufacturers to lose enthusiasm for it. Bill Gates was the most visible messiah for the tablet computer since 2001 but alas, 9 years after he first announced that Microsoft’s plan to make tablet computers popular, only very few people bought it. Customers complained about the buggy software and the expensive hardware of tablet computers. The touchscreen interface and navigation of Windows-powered tablet computers were profoundly criticized for their poor performance and efficiency.

Apple’s Steve Jobs was not discouraged by Microsoft’s failure and instead wants to one-up them with his new toy, the iPad. Apple has always been applauded for making innovative products. The tremendous success of its iPod, iPod Touch, and iPhone gadgets has emboldened it to test the unchartered territories of tablet computers.

The 21st century has resurrected the fading star of Apple starting 2003 when they first introduced the iPod music players. The company has managed to return to profitability by branching out from their usual Macintosh desktop and laptop products. The iPod and iPhone not only made profits through hardware sales but also provided Apple more income through sales generated from the iTunes Store.

Steve Jobs is so confident that iPad will prove to be another big hit with the buying public. Apple has a 70-million army of loyal customers who bought iMac desktops, Macbook laptops, iPods, and iPhones. There are millions of Apple fanatics who are always en queue to buy any product made by Steve Jobs and friends. Apple Inc. knows this and even if the iPad has been disparaged by industry experts as having sub-par features, millions of Apple loyalist will still buy it. The company also made another marketing coup when they announced that the iPad can be obtained for as low as $499 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model. This low price-point ensures the triumphant big-number sales for iPad models. Steve Jobs surprised a lot of industry experts by this, most people were expecting around $1000 price tag for the iPad. Apple has always been known to sell pretty expensive products but the iPad was a complete turnaround for the company. Apple is already killing the competition for the iPad by selling it in a very affordable manner. Imitators will have a hard time convincing buyers to buy their tablet computers instead of the iPad. The Apple brand commands premium quality and people will always buy it over other brands if they can afford to.

Will Apple succeed where Microsoft failed? I say yes. The iPad has no outstanding features that make it greatly superior than the tablet computers made before by other hardware manufacturers. Apple has the marketing genius to push products in the market and loyal Apple followers will always buy them no matter what. Customer fidelity is why the Apple iPad will succeed.
