Chumby8 Digital Frame and Internet Tablet Release Date, Price and Specs
Chumby of San Diego California is happy to announce that they are now accepting pre-orders for their forthcoming chumby8 product. Derrick Oien, CEO, says Chumby8 release date is on April 5, 2011. It will still sell for the same old price of $199.95 despite getting numerous upgrades.
If you fancy having a feature-packed digital photo frame, pre-order the chumby 8. It is also a web streaming appliance with nice internet apps.
More than a digital photo frame, the chumby8 is a much-praised internet-connected electronic gadget that’s almost similar to a tablet computer. However, instead of running on Android OS, the chumby8 uses a widget-base operating system. chumby8′s UI design is very user-friendly. It is not as elegant as the NIX Hu-Motion 8-inch Digital Photo Frame but it is also an internet device.
Thanks to a powerful 800MHz Marvell CPU and 128MB DDR2 RAM, the chumby8 can stream web content smoothly. It has more than 1,500 widgets that will stream webpages ranging from Facebook, Pandora, FlickR, Youtube, Twitter and many more. It also supports Flash Lite 4 and Actionscript 3.
It’s a great tool for displaying your photos but the 8″ 800 x 600 LCD of the chumby8 is touchscreen sensitive so you can use this like a regular tablet. The custom WebKit browser will let you browse the regular internet. It has stereo in/out ports and built-in speaker so it’s also perfect for streaming movies or radio.
