Sling Media Slingbox SOLO Review: The SB260-100 Sling Media box has many pros and cons. Enumerated below is an outline of Sling Media Slingbox SOLO customer reviews.
PROS
- The software to setup the device is very easy and very fast.
- Internet good but not as impressive but it depends on how much upstream bandwidth is available.
- Video quality on a home network is superb.
- It works when paired w/ direct tv and Symbian phone.
- Sling Media Slingbox Solo is and innovative product with no monthly fee.
CONS
- The media box does not come with a software CD or SVid cable. So people have to dig one for themselves.
- Only one connection allowed at a time.
- No Recording Option available. This feature was excluded perhaps because of some copyright issues.
- Maximum Resolution is only 640×480 res.
- Mobile Player software is not free. It costs $29 to install the player software on mobile device.
- According to a costumer, the Sling Media Slingbox SOLO does not provide much essential information. It gave a poor documentation:
* The instruction that the Slingplayer must be installed on your laptop to view TV from the Slingbox is not included in the manual. This is an important info especially for those who had no idea on how the product works.
* On the Slingbox Solo box it is mentioned in SMALL PRINT that you’ll need Slinglink if the TIVO/TV to which the Slingbox is attached and the router are in separate rooms.
* It would be helpful to have a clear technical description of how the system works – the basic HOW TO’s.
Bottom line: The Sling Media Slingbox SOLO is a good media box for those who does not want to deal with recurrent fees. However, before availing one, be sure to be ready of the disadvantages of this media box as listed above.
