Elpida Announces World’s Largest Capacity 32GB LRDIMM Memory Module

Date Published: November 17, 2010

Elpida Memory Inc., one of the world’s biggest maker of Dynamic Random Access (DRAM) modules has officially announced their latest 32GB Load Reduced Dual In-Line Memory Module (LRDIMM).

Elpida 32GB LRDIMM Release Date, Review, Technical Specs

Elpida of Japan announces they will be shipping sample units of their latest 32GB LRDIMM memory to OEM companies. Commercial launch is slated for the middle of next year.

They claim it’s the world’s largest DRAM module density ever created to date. And starting November 11, they will be shipping sample units to select OEM partners. Mass production will commence on the first quarter of next year and commercial launch will hopefully be by mid-2011 (release date).

LRDIMM is the latest standard for server memory modules. It greatly diminishes I/O bus capacity by buffering the bus with a unique memory buffer so that it enables bigger system density and faster operational speed.
Elpida’s 32GB LRDIMM Memory will be ideal for servers and high-end PC workstations.

JEDEC, the standardization organization for the semiconductor industry is already enthusiastic about replacing the current RDIMM or conventional Registered DIMM with LRDIMM because of its superior features.

RDIMM can only allow a maximum 16 DIMM modules but Elpida says LRDIMM allows up to 24 DIMM modules in one system. In terms of computing power, a server with 24 32GB LRDIMM makes it a 768-gigabyte platform – making it 1.5x more powerful than a system loaded with just 16 RDIMM modules.

Elpida 32GB LRDIMM Features:

  • At 32-gigabyte the industry’s highest density memory module
  • A maximum operating speed of 1600Mbps (also supports 1333Mbps)
  • 1.35V/1.5V supply voltage
  • Compliant with JEDEC memory buffer (MB) and Raw Card K standards
  • Symmetric memory buffers maintain signal integrity
  • Elpida’s original heat spreader to increase cooling and maintain reliable operation in response to the higher memory density
  • 40nm process 4-gigabit DDR3 SDRAM (DDP) installed
