The Humane PC Review: Cheapest Personal Computer for Only US$20
A non-profit organization called Humane Informatics announced the availability of The Humane PC. One of their founding members has invented the perfect computer for impoverished countries. The Humane PC is an open-source project that the Humane Informatics is championing. This small computer can be mass-produced for less than $20 and can use any television set as a display monitor! Just plug it in any functioning TV, connect a keyboard and mouse, and you have yourself a cheap desktop computer!
Accordingly, the inventor of the Humane PC has also announced an e-book reader version of his work called the Humane Reader. Braddock Gaskill, inventor of these two wonderful gadgets, stated that only 20% of the world student population has access to online educational resources. His Humane Reader seeks to address this disparity. The $20 device can contain all of Wikipedia’s contents plus 5,000 more books on a single SD card. Poor schools that do not have the money to buy a real computer or have internet can really benefit from Gaskll’s invention. As long as they have a keyboard, mouse and a television set, their students can access an offline library of Wikipedia and other digital textbooks.
If you are interested to help Humane Informatics, you may visit their website at www.humaneinfo.com. By buying a couple or a dozen of these $20 computers and donating them, you will help billions of impoverished students gain access to better educational resources. The code and hardware design for Humane PC and Humane Reader can also be downloaded. They are available under GNU public license. Those who have the technical knowledge and resources may build their own Humane PC and Humane Reader versions and distribute them for free.
Gaskill is looking for partner NGO’s and educational entities that can help him distribute his invention in developing countries. Please contact him at braddock@braddock.com.
