Baidu Beats Google in China: Google Threatens to Exit China

Date Published: January 17, 2010

Baidu versus Google China: In the battle of search engines used in China, Baidu.com (or BIDU) dominates the market and Google China only stands next to it. The Baidu-Google competition in China’s search engine users has been one of the top news of this week. Since Baidu Chinese Search Engine was launched in January 2000, Google has lost much of its hold on Chinese search engine users or internet surfers. Baidu, being a Chinese company, gets a home court advantage. With that being said, Google threatened to pullout of China.

Search Engine Internet Market Share Rates - Baidu vs Google

Baidu compared to Google China's Internet Market Shares

In China’s internet search market, Baidu is the top dog in the list hitting an approximately 64% of the market share. The rest of the market is shared by Google (Approximately 31%) and other networks such as Yahoo, Sohu, Tencent, MSN and more. This year, rumors say that Google, Incorporated has the potential to pullout of China.

Many video discussions or Google news are coming out about Google’s exit from China. Try watching this YouTube video with a discussion about Google China and Baidu search engines.

After watching this video about Google and Baidu, do you think Google is really going to leave China? Would it be a nice move for Google China to let Baidu and other search engines rule China’s internet surfers? Who will benefit the most if Google exits China? Will it be Baidu or the other search engines such as Tencent and Yahoo? To our readers who have answers or comments, feel free to leave your views at the comment box section.

If Google, Inc. leaves China, then Baidu.com will definitely rule China’s search engine. Other small time search engines like Yahoo, MSN, Sohu, Tencent and more will also gain from Google’s pain. However, Baidu is the number  one and will be the biggest search engine in China if Google finally decided its grand exit.

Aside from Google’s possible withdrawal from China, another hot news is on the loose and it is about Kodak Law Suit Against Research in Motion (RIM) and Apple.
