Disappointing Low Sales of Google Nexus One Superphone
This is just pathetic and sad despite the outstanding Google Nexus One Phone review posted by CNET, Bloomberg, among others. Google’s much-hyped and reputed would be iPhone-killer Nexus One smart phone sold a measly 80,000 units for January 2010. Compare this to iPhone when it debuted on 2007, it sold a whooping 600,000 units in its first month! Motorola Droid also sold 575,000 units in its first month last year. The superphone Nexus One’s bombastic release is turning out to be a dud even up to the publication of this article.
Tech bloggers were praising it to high heavens during its debut at CES 2010, sounding out Nexus One to be a true revolutionary smartphone that will soon dominate worldwide. Leaked reports have surmised that Google only sold around 80,000 last month and it’s a rather dismal performance by industry expectations. Google has refused to release its official sales numbers for Nexus One but experts around the world came up with the 80,000 figures based on the android apps downloaded and the number of phones detected.
I bet the Apple boys are smirking in triumph. Google fell flat on its face. How dare this usurper tread on iPhone territory! Google and Apple are now bestfriends-turned-enemies and Apple is having a great laugh at the online giant’s awkward failure. I sure hate to be the Google employee in charge of Nexus One Android Phone right now. He is an epic fail. Google has billions and billions of dollars to promote Nexus One and yet it had miserable monthly sales figures. He should learn from Apple’s marketing blitz, they make expensive but ordinary items look like must-have utensils. Google should realize that a smartphone is a luxury item that needs all the glitz and glamour of a well-put advertising campaign. Web banners and a Youtube channel will not deliver the message of how great the Nexus One is, even with the introduction of Google Goggles (download this free mobile phone app if you’ve already purchased a Nexus One to appreciate the mobile phone even more).
Turgid Google ought to start promoting Nexus One aggressively on TV and giant billboards. May I suggest that they hire Snooki and The Situation from MTV’s cult hit show, Jersey Shore to whore out Nexus One on TV. What the heck, they can even give recently-fired Conan O’Brien a new job as its pitch man for Nexus One. The ginger-haired funny man didn’t have good ratings for the Tonight Show but I am sure he can convince a lot of people to try out the Nexus One.
