Webcams Compatible With GTalk and GMail Voice Plus Video Chat
If are using GTalk and/or Gmail voice and video chat, you might have run into some problems with webcams not working. This was outlined in our post titled “Webcam Not Compatible With GTalk: Incompatibility Issues in GTalk“. One of the webcam models not totally compatible with Gtalk is A4Tech PK-835MJ 5-Megapixel (MP) Webcam. A solution this incompatibility was discussed in the previous article so head on to it if you need some help on this.
Now, as to webcams or webcam models supported by GTalk and Gmail Video + Voice Chat, here is the short list of webcams tested and proven to be compatible with GTalk and GTalk and Gmail Video plus Voice Chat. There are other models that can work seamlessly with GTalk. The following are only the recommended webcams by the developer, Google:
- For Windows desktops, you can purchase Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 and Logitech QuickCam Communicate MP
- For Windows laptops, you can buy Logitech QuickCam Pro for Notebooks
- For Mac desktop computers and notebooks, try getting Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac
You can add to this list of compatible webcams (if you have tested one) through your comments.
On the other hand, why should you get a webccam compatible with GTalk and Gmail Voice and Video Chat? Simple. This is to avoid the very slow loading of Gmail at times and prevent some Gmail login errors that have become persistent over the past few months after launching the new Gmail platform.

The cameras on the HP Slate 500 are identified by Google Video chat and are selectable, however the video does not work, only the voice. Please fix this Google !!!
