“Hack-Proof” PS3 Got Hacked By a 22-Year-Old American | Playstation 3 Hacked

Twenty-year-old prodigy George Hotz claimed he had hacked the PS3 using very simple steps. This dude is famous for being the first guy to hack the original iPhone in 2007. George Hotz, also known as geohot or million75, announced last December 2009 that he is going to do the nearly-impossible task of hacking the Playstation 3. Sony’s latest gaming console is thought to be patently “unhackable” because the Japanese company embedded very tough security measures on the PS3.

Sony Playstation 3 Hacked by a 22 y/o

Rampant existence of pirated Playstation games has forced Sony to implement a vacuum-tight anti-piracy lock on the Playstation 3. The new system on the Playstation 3 was so stringent, the console wouldn’t even play authentic Playstation 2 games! This inability of the PS3 to play legit PS2 games caused major uproar from PS2 owners.

However, despite of the great vehemence by its PS2 customers, Sony stuck to its guns and refused to change the PS3’s anti-piracy lock system. They were playing it safe and they are merely preventing a vulnerability that can be exploited by hackers. Obviously, allowing PS2 games to play on the PS3 will allow it to be hacked again.

    PS3 is not secure after all. If PS3 got hacked, then that shows it’s not hack-proof despite it being a product of Sony playstation, one of the world’s biggest corporations.
