Nintendo Dsi Availability: Dsi Comes to Japan in November and to the US in 2009
The Nintendo Dsi is the newest product of Nintendo and according to reports, it is even slimmer than Nintendo Lite. It will be available in Japan on November 1, 2008 while in Europe, it will only be available in 2009 (Spring). In Australia, the Nintendo Dsi is scheduled for release in the market in the autumn of 2009 while North American market will see the DSi at an unknown date in 2009 (Schedule to be arranged).
According to wikipedia, the Nintendo DSi is an upcoming version of the handheld game console Nintendo DS, announced during the Nintendo Conference on October 2, 2008 in Tokyo, Japan. The Nintendo DSi is a revised model of the Nintendo DS Lite.
Nintendo has announced that it will be about 12% thinner than the DS Lite. The new handheld will contain two cameras (a 0.3 megapixel [300,000 pixels, 640 x 480 resolution] camera on the internal hinge pointed towards the user and a camera on the outside of the shell), larger screens (3.25 inches as opposed to the previous 3 inches), and improved speakers. The Power switch was replaced with a power button, as the original DS had, now located next to the bottom left side of the touch screen. it is also a small round button, similar to the power buttons on Wii Remotes. A new SD card slot will be utilized for external storage of pictures and downloaded software. The front slot for Game Boy Advance (GBA) cartridges will be removed, thus removing the unit’s backward compatibility and its compatibility with accessories that require the GBA slot. The DSi will have its own internal flash memory and will ship with a built-in web browser. Photos can be synced to the Wii’s Photo Channel. It is possible to download games from an online store, called the DS Shop, and store them on the DSi. The applications will either be free, 200, 500, or 800+ Nintendo Points.
The system will be released in Japan on November 1, 2008 for 18,900 yen (tax included), around US$180, in matte black and white, and in 2009 for the rest of the world. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime claimed that DS Lite sales in the United States were still strong, so introducing the Nintendo DSi to the US is not a high priority. Rose Lappin, President of Nintendo Australia Pty Ltd has not commented about the NDSi but it is expected to be released around the same time as Europe due to Australia being aligned to Europe regarding release dates because Europe and Australia are a part of the PAL Region.
Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime told G4 on October 2, 2008 that the DSi will not be available in North America until after April 2009.
Nintendo describes the Nintendo DSi as a “third platform”, suggesting that the console will be positioned as a separate platform to sell alongside Wii and Nintendo DS, and not as an immediate replacement for the Nintendo DS Lite.
Nintendo DSi updates and Nintendo DSi prices will be discussed in future articles. Stay updated on the latest news about this cool handheld games console (gadget).

The Nintendo Dsi price you’ve mentioned is low. Is it true that the DSi is this cheap? I was thinking of a higher amount. Or, is this Nintendo’s way of selling the Nintendo DSi at a low cost so that they can sell Nintendo Dsi games at a high price?

Nintendo gamer,
I really do not know what Nintendo’s business strategy is at this point in time. I will try to research more on this and I will update this post regarding Nintendo DSi price/cost, downloadable games (or commercial games) and anything Nintendo if I get the chance.

It’s not like it’s an entirely new system; games will remain in the same price bracket, and since it is simply an update of a system, it shouldn’t be expected to be far more expensive.
They’re probably making a mistake taking out backwards compatibility, but that’s what DS flash cards are for.
