Archos 7 Internet Media Tablet Review, Price and Specs
The French company that made Archos 5 has responded to people’s request for a bigger screen for their popular portable media player. The Archos 7 is the answer to this. The 7 in the model name denotes the larger high resolution: 7-inch screen. I have been a fan of the Archos 5 ever since it came to market in 2008. The introduction of this thin and highly portable internet and media player has ushered in a new reign of tablet computers. Before the Apple iPad hype (see Review in the linked article), Archos was the most talked-about tablet computer in 2009 for its innovative technology. It combined a stellar internet connectivity and superior HD movie viewing.

I have reviewed the Archos 5 Internet Tablet before and I gave it double thumbs-up for being original and daring. It managed to pack enough features in a very small and light package. The Archos 7 is essentially the same with the Archos 5 but only has a larger 7-inch screen and bigger 320 GB hard drive. It might seem to be a minor upgrade but the larger screen has been a major wish for Archos 5 users who wanted a bigger display to watch their favorite HD movies on the go. The 800×600 seven-inch TFT LCD screen is already comparable to netbooks like Asus Eee PC 900 Netbook. But unlike netbooks, the Archos 7 has enough power to run full HD videos without any stuttering. This has been the Archos’ best selling point — customers fell in love with the Archos 5 even though it has a tiny screen. People just appreciate the Archos 5 for giving the option to watch their favorite HD movies anywhere they have the time. The color and saturation of movies watched on the Archos 7 is superior and playback is as smooth as ever.
The Archos 7 is riding on the initial success of Archos 5 and hope to gain more loyal followers with its bigger screen and larger capacity. The Archos 7 can store up to 40 HD movies or 190,000 MP3 songs. It might be heavier than the smaller Archos 5 but it still is very light and thin enough to lug around. Cheap portable media players have sprouted everywhere but none has so far managed to deliver the same thrill of an Archos tablet. The Archos 7 delivers the same excellent internet connectivity. It is more than a portable media player; it has become more like a touch screen netbook similar to the ASUS Eee Pad Tablet PC (a Touch screen computer) that lets you watch and enjoy HD movies.
You should purchase one from Amazon for its low price – the Archos 7 with 320GB retails for as low as $364.11. This is a bargain deal for such a marvelous gadget with good specs. It is only half an inch thick and yet it boasts the horsepower of a regular netbook thanks to its 600Mhz ARM Cortex superscalar microprocessor. Please consider also that you may now download application widgets for the Archos 7 from the Archos homepage. There are now thousands of applications that let you do the usual home and office productivity chores. You are not gonna get bored once you ran out of movies to watch on it because the Archos 7 now supports Flash and Shockwave video games.
