Archos 3 Vision Portable Media Player Review: Great Value for Money vs iPod Touch
Archos 3 Vision Portable Media Player Review: The low price would let you think the Archos 3 Vision portable media player is perhaps made of cheap plastic parts but it isn’t. The construction felt solid and I think the back is made of some brushed aluminum alloy. Handling the Archos 3 Vision is easy but I would like to point out that its resistive touch screen display requires repeat tapping to respond. I am not saying it is poor but it isn’t the most sensitive touch screen that lets you tap lightly and get something done right away.
The Archos 3 Vision Portable Media Player is handicapped by this not-very-responsive resistive touch screen and worst, the user interface is not very user-friendly like what the iPod has. While the user interface looks cute and dandy, I hated the fact that browsing music or video files is cumbersome. Navigating folders of contents on the Archos 3 is hampered by a lack of a quick scroll bar to browse long vertical lists of music, photos, and videos. The Archos 3 engineers would have done better if they tried to emulate an easy filing system like the iPod has. They did include a virtual small circular button that acts like the old iPod scroll wheel but it is not accurate. Using it is not easy because sometimes I found myself selecting the incorrect options!
Aside from this poor User Interface design, I still love the Archos 3 Vision portable media player. It has all the necessary features you will find in more expensive portable media players like Microsoft’s Zune HD and iPod Touch. I also am madly happy with the built-in FM transmitter. You can use the plugged-in headphone as a transmitter antenna to stream music wireless to a nearby radio or boom box! This is a killer feature to those who want to do spontaneous live DJ-ing but hates bringing a laptop or netbook. The battery life is also decent, around14 hours of audio play. All in all, the pretty Archos 3 Vision is a great bargain compared to other expensive pocket media players and it’s highly recommended to bargain hunters always seeking to save some money for the rainy seasons.
