Sharp AQUOS 42-inch LC42D85U LCD HDTV Review: Among consumer reviews, Sharp AQUOS LC42D85U LCD-TV came out strong. Here’s an outline of the positive and negative comments.
PROS
- Awesome HD picture: 1080p and 120Hz.
- Price is at least $350 cheaper than any comparable brand at this size (like Sony and Samsung).
- Very light screen weight and easy to move.
- The stand is very sturdy. The stand is about 10lbs of metal with a nice black.
- Trim is pretty slim, maximizing space and making it look slick.
- Sound is great for built in speakers and are set on the bottom of the TV.
- Easy to set up the TV on the stand. The set up is very similar to the setup of computer LCD monitor.
- Good for gaming! Perfectly lagless.
CONS
- The remote, its like a grand father’s remote. It is long and clunky, looks and feels cheap, and poorly designed.
- Manual is not that good. It does not tell me the type of wall mount brackets I would need except it try to sell Sharp’s version.
- Worst! Sharp does not honor warranty. According to one costumer review, his Sharp AQUOS 42″ LC42D85U suddenly cracked in the middle of viewing. It was examined by Sharp authorized repair shop and verified that there was no evidence of physical damage. However, Sharp refused to replace it and instead offered another of their products with a discount.

Screen started separating after ~ 1 year on our LC-42D64U. Sent to Sharp recommended repair shop. Sharp sent an inspector, stated it was kinda early for this king or mortality issue. Offered to refurb $205, replace $405, update $465, or pick any new one and get a discount. Oh yeah there is a $230 service fee added to these options. Not much of a deal when a newone is only $900+. Think I’ll just get my old one back and wait for it to fail completely.
