Aside from unveiling an industry-first notebook with 14-Inch transparent LCD screen, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd also wowed attendees to the FPD China 2011 Expo with their huge 55-inch Naked-Eye 3D TV! The audiences were astounded that they could watch a real 3D movie on such a large display without using special stereoscopic glasses like the one built into the BlackBerry PlayBook with Stereoscopic 3D Display. Nope, you don’t have that thingy in this 3D HDTV.

In 3 years time or less, Samsung will be marketing an affordable 3D LCD TV that can be viewed without 3D glasses.
This yet unnamed 3D LCD TV from Samsung has a simple button to switch between 2D and 3D viewing modes. Part of its specs and features include the following: It is outfitted with a special LCD panel whose optical refraction index can be easily changed to display 3D images that’s viewable glasses-free.
Moreover, this changeable Samsung 3DTV LCD display type, when in 3D mode, projects two different images for the right and the left eye, creating a stereoscopic image. The huge 55-inch screen displays 2D and 3D videos in full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution. It also boasts a very high 500cd/m2 brightness rating and 4,000:1 contrast ratio. The Samsung 55” Naked-Eye 3D TV uses a direct-lit Cold Cathode Flourescent Lamp as backlight unit.
When not in 3D mode, this 3D TV can function as a regular 2D web-enabled Samsung Smart TV. But Samsung’s personnel at FPD China also said it will take the company at least 3 years to bring this product to commercial market. It’s a long wait but we believe it’s going to be worth it.
