New Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3T Tablet PC on Sale for $549
With the Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3T Tablet PC going on sale for under $550, it looks like a lot of computer companies are riding on the buzz of the Apple iPad Tablet PC’s release in the market. Apple has stirred much interest and rumors on its decision to market a Tablet PC so industry watchers and consumers are enthralled. Apple is definitely the Beatles of the computing world and Steve Jobs the John Lennon of geeks. Everybody from Bangalore to Athens listens attentively when Apple does something even if its old news like the Tablet PC concept.
Wily Chinese Lenovo is taking advantage of this opportunity to promote its new S10-3T Tablet by slashing $50 off its regular price from its web store. The basic configuration for S10-3T is now available for only $549.00 with free shipping included! The S10-3T was first unveiled last January 6 at CES 2010 and since then, Tablet PC models have gone on sale or have advertised lower suggested retails prices than the iPad such as ASUS Eee Pad Tablet PC, Freescale SmartBook Tablet PC, and the Android-powered Viewsonic Vtablet 101 Tablet PC – all sold under $500 SRP.
It is rather unique because it is a 10-inch netbook running on Windows 7 but it converts to a Tablet PC using a swivel twist action on the monitor. The tablet display is a full 1024 x 600 capacitive touch screen like what is currently used on the iPhone. It responded fast enough to my bare finger actions with no noticeable lag. I can confidently say it is as responsive as the iPhone’s capacitive screen. Lenovo installed its own custom software to operate the S10-3T when it is in tablet mode. The software is a bit slow but it functions well enough to tolerate. It would have been sweet if users can still navigate this machine on Windows 7 even in tablet form. But nevertheless, I am impressed with the built-in QuickStart 2.0 software. You can instantly access apps and the web without even starting Windows.
Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3T Tablet PC Review: Spending $549 for the new Lenovo Ideapad S10-3T is well worth it because this netbook-cum-tablet PC is smartly equipped with an Intel ATOM Processor N450 1.66Ghz, Genuine Windows 7 Starter Edition, an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150, 160GB Hard Drive, and 1GB of DDR2 RAM. You can still outfit with more memory or bigger hard disk on Lenovo’s online shop before you order it. Expect to pay more though if you want to customize the specs of Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3T (06514EU – Cosmic Wonder) or the Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3T 06514FU – Cosmic Night model.
The Lenovo S10-3T is a good buy. It serves dual-purpose and will surely surprise your office mates or friends when your humble netbook suddenly transforms into a full-pledged tablet PC! It functions exemplary as a netbook with full-size keyboard and responsive touch pad. The Windows 7 on it runs decently considering it only has 1GB of memory which only shows the ability of Windows 7 to conserve memory and other system resources.
