MSI Wind U135 Netbook Review: Special Edition On Sale Cheap

Date Published: February 12, 2010

I love it when companies start selling their much-improved products at very affordable prices. MSI’s latest netbook, Wind U135 is one excellent example. The Taiwanese company is issuing this special edition to celebrate its 1million sales of Wind netbooks. Americans can now buy this fantastic little laptop from Best Buy, Amazon and other online retailers. While others call it a netbook, I say the MSI Wind U135 Netbook is a mini laptop that has the features of a full-grown laptop. This10-inch brawny netbook is equipped with the latest and most potent Intel Atom N450 Pine Trail processor. It will still be power-efficient and yet be capable of multi-tasking. The Wind U135 is being sold with Windows 7 Starter edition pre-loaded. For the Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade, you’ll need to pay extra. Of course you can run open source Linux distros if you want to, in case you love freebies.

The price of MSI Wind U135 Netbook is $309.99 at the moment, you can have this that I proudly declare is better than most laptops on sale now. Some of the MSI Wind U135 Netbook Features and Specs are the following. Read and digest, please, these attributes should entice you to avail yourself of the MSI U135.

  • Intel Atom N450 Pine Trail processor
  • Option of 160GB or 250 GB hard drive
  • 1 GB of DDR2 memory
  • Windows 7 Starter
  • 10-inch LED display (1024 x 600 resolution)
  • A raised chiclet keyboard
  • 1.3-megapixel webcam
  • MSI ECO Engine Technology
  • Choice between 3-cell or 6-cell battery
  • Five power modes (Gaming, Movie, Presentation, Document and Turbo)
  • Three USB 2.0 ports
  • D-Sub port
  • 4×1 memory card reader
  • Available in four fancy colors (silver, charcoal, ruby and sapphire)

Add another $20 and you can have a 250GB hard drive. The MSI Wind is a better buy than the Asus Eee 1005PE and far more powerful than Asus Eee PC 900 netbook. This MSI netbook feels more solid and costs lower than most Asus netbooks like the 1005PE model. They both are great netbooks but the MSI is at least $50 cheaper. Unless Asus matches the U135’s price tag, I can confidently predict that the MSI Wind U135 will be the best-selling netbook for 2010.

I have obvious bias in favor of MSI Wind netbooks because they were the first one that was capable of running Apple’s Mac OS X 2 years ago. MSI uses hardware components that are quite compatible with Mac OS X. It is all about providing inimitable usability that makes MSI Wind the better choice. It’s so gratifying to run Apple’s OS on a cheap netbook. Not everybody can afford a Macbook or the more expensive yet more powerful Macbook Pro but thanks to a cheap MSI Wind netbook, people can enjoy the splendor of Mac OS X without spending more money.
