ASUS Eee Pad Tablet PC With 10.1″ Touchscreen Release Date and Price

The company that started the netbook phenomenon is set to join the fray for the tablet pc market. Asus is rumored to be launching the Eee Pad during COMPUTEX 2010 in Taiwan this coming June. The actual ASUS Eee Pad Tablet PC release date will be posted here once it becomes official. Nonetheless, the Asus Eee Pad Tablet PC launch is something to look forward to as this nifty gadget is set to rival the Apple iPad Tablet PC.

Rumors have it that Asus plans to sell their Eee Pad Tablet PC for less than $500. The price of Asus Eee Pad is lower than the price of Apple iPad, FYI (see our past article on Apple Tablet PC price). This bold move will certainly put pressure on other tablet PC manufacturers to match the low price of ASUS Eee Pad. Industry analysts are predicting that even Apple cannot afford to price its iPad too high when a tough competitor like Asus starts selling affordable tablet PCs. The world is still in economic crisis and even rich yuppies will loath to spend more than $800 or more on a fancy tablet computer which, despite the overblown hype, is really just a touch screen notebook!

Asus is still doing strong sales for its netbooks but it has lost considerable ground compared to 3 years ago when classic Asus Eee PC netbooks were selling like hotcakes. This Taiwanese company has successfully branched out from its motherboard business and has proven itself capable of making quality desktops, laptops, netbooks, mobile phones, and now Tablet PCs. Asus grossed over $21.2 Billion for fiscal year 2009. As of November 2009, over 29% of computers sold around the world came with Asus motherboards!

I am a fan of Asus and the Eee Pad Tablet PC will sport a 10.1” capacitive touchscreen display and an Nvidia Tegra graphics accelerator chip. Other specs of the Asus Eee Pad Tablet PC include the ability to play 1080p HD videos smoothly and I am hoping Asus will slap an HDMI output for the Eee Pad. Asus will also manufacture the Eee Pad using its popular Pegatron Vivid technology. Knowing this, we can expect the Asus Eee Pad Tablet PC to have a long battery life; it won’t surprise me if this Tablet PC can do 8-10 hours of usage on a single battery charge.
