Panasonic got famous for making the Toughbook line of super-rugged laptops which they have been doing now for almost 12 years. One of which was the Panasonic Tough F8 released in 2008. They may not be selling much notebooks compared to Acer or HP but Panasonic has won a loyal crew of solid fans. The Japanese company unveiled their latest Panasonic Toughbook 53 14-inch HD LED Laptop models and they come surprisingly cheaper than their predecessors.
The New Panasonic Toughbook 53 will come in 3 variant models. All of them are sporting a Core i3-2310M or Core i5-2520M processor. While this Toughbook 53 still looks like the previous models, Panasonic says this version is now lighter and smaller. The 2011 Panasonic Toughbook 53 now only weighs 5.6 pounds and Panasonic also downsized the screen to 14 inches from the previous 15.6 inch display size of older models.
True to its Toughbook tag, this Panasonic laptop is rated for MIL-STD-810G durability. It can survive drops of up to 30 inches high and it comes in super-turdy magnesium-alloy case. It also comes equipped with shock-mounted 320 GB hard drive and its keyboard is 100% spill-resistant. Like the Xplore iX104C4 Rugged Tablet PC, Toughbook 53 is also dust-proof and can operate in more extreme temperatures than your ordinary notebook.
Panasonic would like to highlight that the new Toughbook 53 also comes with a touchscreen display that uses CircuLumin technology which lets users view this notebook even under complete darkness or under the mid-noon sun. It’s got anti-glare coating and polarizing display. If you don’t like using your finger to navigate, there’s also a free stylus you can use instead. If you don’t like touchscreen at all, then you can back to using the multi-touch touchpad of the Toughbook 53 which is 25% larger than the older model before.
The Panasonic Toughbook 53 also boasts support for the new 4G LTE connectivity. I think it’s the first notebook to get this feature. There’s also a multi-drive DVD Writer, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, a slot for SDXC cards, HDMI, Ethernet and USB 3.0 ports. If you also want to use this laptop in your car, there’s a special dock for using the Toughbook 53 with any automobile.
And the sweetest fact of all is that Panasonic Toughbook 53 dropped their asking prices. The cheapest Toughbook 53 Core i3 model loaded with 320GB HDD and 2GB of DDR3 RAM will only cost you $1,599. The most expensive model will be the Toughbook 53 equipped with touchscreen display, Core i5 and 4GB of DDR3 RAM will cost you $2,499. Still cheap considering this is a Toughbook laptop! Panasonic Toughbooks are legendary for being damage-resistant in any environment.
Other than laptops, notebooks, tablet PC’s and phones, there are also cameras built for rugged use such as the Olympus TOUGH TG-810 Digital Camera.
