Samsung Alex Chrome OS Netbook Specs and Features Leaked

Well, well, Samsung made a lot more millions with their very successful Galaxy S series of Android phones and Galaxy Tab Android Tablets. It’s no surprise then that the Korean company is further leveraging its business profiteering on the strength of Google innovative softwares. An enterprising geek just found out and leaked details about the upcoming Samsung Alex Chrome OS netbook that may soon see commercial launch this June or July.

Samsung Alex Chrome OS Netbook Specs and Release Date

Here's the upcoming Chrome OS netbook from Samsung. It's codename is "Alex" and it will feature dual-core Atom N550 CPU and 2GB of RAM!

Google made official announcement last December that Samsung and Acer Chrome OS netbook models are scheduled to be released by mid-2011 and this leak confirms it. In fact, Acer will ship 1 Million Google Chrome OS netbooks this year. The Samsung Alex Netbook is evidently going to be powered by the latest dual-core 1.5 GHz Intel N550 and will feature a 10.1-inch 1280×800 display. The Chromium bug report document that detailed things about this Chrome OS netbook showed it will also ship with a SanDisk SSD P4 hard drive, size of which we can safely assume at around 32GB or 64GB.

Google Chrome OS is supposed to a very thin client OS that’s web-friendly but I’m surprised that the Samsung Alex will ship out with 2GB of RAM! That’s a lot of memory for a web-based OS so I think Samsung is leveraging this netbook as more than just a cheap internet toy. The large amount of RAM hints this netbook will also be a full-pledged entertainment player.

As per the Chromium bug report document, the Samsung Alex will also feature a Qualcomm Gobi 2000 3G card, Bluetooth, WiFi, webcam and a Synaptics touchpad. The dual-core processor and 2GB of RAM make this Chrome OS netbook also ideal for Adobe Flash gaming. As you all know by now, FarmVille and CityVille on Facebook really gobbles up huge amounts of RAM, 300 to 400MB per instance!

I just hope that Samsung Alex Chrome OS Netbook will not be priced more than $400. Chrome OS is free so I think that’s the fair price point for this netbook. I know it’s got a lot of RAM and a dual-core N550 but I’m still fervently wishing these upcoming Samsung netbooks won’t cost more than that price tag above.
