@shankar, I can’t guarantee it will work for you, but I’ll be glad to send you the version I have of iPodService.exe. I don’t know if this forum allows my email address to be visible, but just put my name in Google and you’ll see my home page as the first entry, and my email address is there.

i have this issue & must have the bad version of the .exe file as mine is 801kb…where do i get the ‘good’ version of the file?? i have tried everything else and just cannot fix this problem!!

The iPod Service Failed to Start problem is annoying! I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling at least 10 times, cleaning my registry, tried starting in selective start mode, uninstall, reinstall again,disabling firewall and virus scan, tried starting ipod service manually. I finally gave up and tried to install an older version of iTunes which installed just fine, but it didn’t recognize my library, which was at a more recent version. Oh, and let’s not forget how the install locked up my iPhone, and I had to have it restored at the Apple store. I’ve wasted 3 days trying to fix this! Gee thanks, Apple! Anyone can figure this out, let me know.

I had the same problem, and none of the solutions I read on various blogs worked for me. Since I wasn’t getting this problem on my old computer, but only on my new computer, I copied the iPod directory from the Program Files directory of my old computer onto my new computer, and that fixed the problem (I had first copied the iTunes directory from my old computer to my new computer, but that didn’t fix the problem). The key is probably iPodService.exe, which lives in the bin subdirectory of the iPod directory. The bad version of iPodService.exe is 801 KB, and the good version of iPodService.exe is 528 KB

I tried everything to get mine to work, and eventually I just turned off my windows firewall, and it installed fine. Don’t know why?

Fresh install of your operating system – FORMAT your hard drive.
Should do the trick.

so has anyone figured out how to solve this problem yet? i feel like i have tried everything. i have administrator privelages, i uninstalled all apple programs like bonjour, mobile device and application support, software updates, and quicktime… AND cleaned my registry, and i still have yet to resolve this problem. if anyone has the answer, please reply, thanks.
